Amsoil-Mobil1- Royal Purple
Read everything there is to know about oil, but just can't make up my mind. Running regular Mobil1 5W20 synthetic right now, but i want to switch to a " full" " synthetic oil.
I've narrowed it down to these three brands which are all true synthetic group 1V base stocks.
Mobil1 5W30 Extended performance, cannot get it in the 20 weight around here.
Amsoil 5W20 signature series
Royal purple 5W20

Either one of those three in a 10w30 would be just fine. Personal preference for me is Mobil 1. If you decide on the Mobil 1, make sure to get the Extended Performance version of the 10w30.

I see you have almost 3,000 posts so you've been around mustangs for awhile. Are you a member on the SVTPerformance forum? If so, message a guy on there named UnleashedBeast. He can tell you literally anything and everything there is to know about oil including the question you just asked. If you're not a member then read this, it explains everything.

Speaking of oil. I went to get my oil changed today and I pulled 8 qts of Mobil 1 out of the trunk and my mechanic asked me why am I using 5W20 and I said that what the book called for. He asked did I want to use his internet to make sure. I thanked him for his concern and said no and went on to reading about how to reset the message center. When he appeared again I showed him the page in the manual that shows 5W20 is the oil to use. He said yes I know I looked it up. I went from 0 to pissed off real quick. I told him (and he knows this) I have owned Mustangs all my life and you never worked on one until I brought it to you and taught you about american cars. Now you want to 2nd guess me about oil. Oh I was just checking he said. Man! the nerve of some people.

Hmmm...good read over at SVTP. I'm intrigued now by the thought of going to a 5w-30 in the car as an extra layer of protection. On my past vehicles, I used Amsoil, but I've been doing the factory fill on the GT since I got it.

I went from Mobil to RP to Amsoil...
Love the Amsoil, but if you don't have the distributor license or preferred customer discount, it's not really worth the extra money.

Let me get this straight. Sometimes I'm a little SOS (stuck on stupid). I also read what the the guy at SVT said and he surely knows more than I do about oil. So for the cheap seats, are you guys saying that going to 5W30 is better for the motor despite what Ford is saying to use?

On my previous vehicle, I did some research and found that the Euro and JDM fills were using 5w-40, but the US model was recommended 5w-30. Same reason we're looking at differences between 5w-20 and 5w-30. Fuel economy. Is 5w-20 a bad oil? No. Are there better options for our motors? Yes.
Based on what I've read, it's broken down like so:
5w-20 (stock fill) < 5w-20 full synthetic < 5w-30 (Motorcraft) < 5w-30 full synthetic
Full synthetics are Mobil 1 EP, Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple. Even the Motorcraft full synthetic is a less "refined" synthetic, for lack of a better term.

I'm gettIng mine from this guy..lol. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with 5/20 but 5/30 will give an extra layer of protection. There are so many reads on CAFE and the benefits of car companies using 5/20 to beat fines/government regs. Under normal circumstances you will never notice. Please don't let ford or any other car company fool you...they are only interested in your motor being flawless until the warranty runs out and for this reason they request you use 5/20.

I think its 5w50, the very same synthetic used in the GT500, but I'm in agreement, why would Ford have spec'd 5w50 if there wasn't a durability issue when running them hard. As far as I know, the biggest difference between the coyote and road-runner when it comes to stuff the lubricant touches are the main bearings. The road-runner like the condor uses a tri-metal bearing and thats about it. I dont remeber reading anything about changes to the Ti-VCT or the lash adjuster oiling (where it could cause damage when using a higher viscosity oil).
IIRC, Ford's express purpose for using 5w20 is to boost its fuel economy numbers averaged over hundreds of thousands of vehicles. The individual difference probably can hardly be detected.
5w20 is probably fine for the majority of Mustang drivers, my 07 GT certainly didn't suffer in the almost 80k miles that I drove it and than includes bumping the rev limiter often and on one occasion shifting from 3rd to 1st at the big end of the track (did I ever telling anyobdy how awesome a 4.6 3v sounds with the tach pegged in the red... pretty **** awesome) but if your car is modded and/or you use it to race on a regular basis then a higher viscosity oil is like building a steel framed brick house on stilts in New Orleans, just good insurance.
