Suppose the OP is living at home or is in college, parents are paying for the car, but the OP has a little money to invest in the car, then upgrading the V6 makes a little sense. How far you go depends on how much money the OP has to spend.
Dollar for dollar, a Turbo or Supercharger, will make the most power in the end compared to alternative things like a Tune and Gear swap.
The other situation the OP may be dealing with is Age, and the insurance cost in regards to their age. In this regard, modifying a V6 makes more sense than trading it for a GT or higher.
For this thread to be useful at all though, the OP needs to tell us what he wants to gain, and what their planned budget might be.

You can check out what American Muscle's V6 project car to see what they've done and what kind of performance gains you can expect:

I'd say trade it in on a GT500, but that's just mean.
Edit: I DID just say it. I need to go back to sleep and wake up on the other side of the bed.

Do you have interest in maintaining warranty? Any significant performance upgrade will most likely compromise something and could affect warranty work.
That being said I'd go with a tune/intake and gears.
