Adding Additional Ambient Lights on 2010-11 ...
Did a google search on the subject and all that came up was adding the $200+ Ford Accessory Kits to cars w/o factory Ambient Lighting.
Anyway, I'd really like to ADD two more Ambient Lights to my car ... one inside the glove box and one inside the console.
I popped the top off of my console and it looks like there would be room to add one in the front of the console between the latch catch and the bezel with the USB & audio ports.
I'd think one of the ones at the back of the console (rear footwell) could be adapted for the console, however I did not yank the whole console out to see exactly what these light assemblies look like to know for sure.
And for the glove box, I would think one of the front footwell light assemblies could be easily bracketed behind the dash above the glove box.
As far as wiring, I would assume that you could just tap into the 4 wires at the cup-holder lights (or rear foot well) for the console and the pass side front foot well for the glove box.
I would think these light assemblies should be available as replacement parts from Ford ...
AR33-13E721 (LH) & 720 (RH) are the #'s on the front foot well assy's
... however searched Ford online parts for these and came up with nothing.
Anyone already do this ??

The wires would be easy to tap into in the console or under the dash, they are right there. If you get replacement Ford light assy's, it will have the pigtail with all the same wire colors & plug so you would just need to match up the wire colors. Probably need to cut off the Ford Plug though, unless you want to go though the effort of getting the matching plug & short pigtail of wire to mate up to it ... Ford sometimes has these available for repairing a damaged plug assembly.
Wire colors at foot well & cup-holder lamps are ...
Yellow-Orange Stripe
Yellow-Green Stripe
Yellow-Blue Stripe
Brown
For some reason, the door pockets & scuff plates have slightly different color coding ...
door pockets are solid Orange, Blue, Green & Brown
sill plates are White wires with same stripe coding & Brown
As these are LED lights, I can't believe adding 2 more lights would overload the circuit either.
Interestingly, the Wiring Diagram actually shows a "console bin lamp", so maybe Ford had orginally planned for one here too.

Doug.... I looked a bit closer into my console top today while giving her a nice shine inside and out. I noticed that there is a small "hook" like buldge in the console top towards the back (where the hinges are)... wondering if that was ever intended to to anything? Can't believe Ford would form the inside top for no reason like that... maybe a light fixture???
