54U
IMO, a $2,000 option had better include more than just an engine upgrade. For that much, I would expect not only a more-powerful engine (when compared to the current 3V 4.6L), but an upgraded suspension (Watts Link?), upgraded brakes and styling to differentiate it from its 4.6L-equipped counterpart, too.
I'm sorry, but as great as that would be I think you are asking for too much. Maybe a little too much wishful thinkging? an exra 85 horses and 55 torque for 2,000 is reasonable in my opinion. just my $.02
I pray that there is a six speed mated to that 5.0 when it comes out, and heres to there being a 6 speed automatic by 2011 in all models.
I told myself to stay away...but I couldn't make it 3 hours.
I would definitely take the 5.0/ 6spd combo for $2000 (watts would be great), but only if you could get it in a base model, would still be under my $30k budget.

Everyone settle down! The 54U code is the code ford uses to do what they do on the assembly line to prep a car for going to Shelby. Check it out:

This is not going to be an engine upgrade.

You're taking all the fun out of the thread.
oh Heck!
Well maybe they will come out with a 5.0 liter anyways? That's what I'm waiting for!

If the 5.0 does become an optional V8 it should still come in under the price of an SS Camaro. I think the idea of two regular production V8s in a bad idea for the Mustang. Dealers are going to have a hell of a time figuring out what the consumer wants. I personally would get the 5.0 depending on price, if it's too expensive than some may step up to a GT500, supercharge the 4.6 with warranty, or walk into a Chevy or Dodge dealership. I think an important thing to keep in mind is that a huge part of the Mustang's success is that it has been able to have similar performance with a lower price to it's competition.
Some say they would buy a 400HP 5.0 for $34,000 or so... yet you can get a 422HP Camaro for only $31,000 if the Chevy becomes the bargain car then the Mustang is in a world of trouble. I say Ford should invest a lot into the 5.0 (cylinder deactivation, direct injection, eco-boost, 6 speed transmissions) that way you can get the power and the MPGs. Ford will always have the advantage of weight but if the Camaro is more powerful and fuel efficient that Ford squandered one of it's only performance advantages it has. To be honest with the current situation in the auto industry i'm discouraged that the Mustang as usual will see some major cutbacks in the future. It's hard to admit this but I'm actually more excited about the 10' Fusion Sport than I am the 10' Mustang GT!

A part of me hopes this is actually the new 5.0.. but honestly, I just hope Boomer's original prediction is correct:
* That the 4.6 will be phased out completely as the 5.0 is released, forcing the 5.0 to be the standard GT and not a costly option. Even if that means we have to wait until MY2011

If you don't believe that code, then why is there a Track Pack II listed as well?

Did I miss something here? Did someone confirm a 5.0 for the 54U? Because I dont think there is a chance in hell of that happening for 2010. If that code is real, it is probably for some kind of a dealer installed supercharger or other outfit.
But I tell you what I will keep my fingers crossed for you 5.0 guys!!

That's what I'm afraid of.
