Exclamation 5.0L = Red Coolant (Uh, oh)

I just noticed that the new 5.0 comes with red coolant. Is it Dexcool?

I recall hearing before that the Dexcool is harder on your engine that the regular green coolant. Specifically, I have heard of water pump and head gasket failures related to its use. The last thing I want in a high compression engine is coolant that compromises the head gaskets.

If this stuff is indeed Dexcool, then I think my first order of business will be a complete coolant flush. Any thoughts?

I think you should trust the engineers who designed the engine

I've always been a believer in keeping the factory spec myself, so long as you don't mod anything, though that said I don't use the same oil as what comes in the factory. Does the manual or anything specify what it uses by factory spec?

I agree...I don't think they would've designed it so that cautious owners would have to do an entire coolant flush as soon as they got the car.

I read on the Internet that it's freeze-proof Kool-aid. Fruit punch flavored.

Did you trust the engineers who designed the spark plugs for 3v? How about the 2v and 4v where plugs shot out of the engine? Did you trust the engineers who designed the 1999 Cobra engine? Did you trust the engineers who designed the cowl seal for the 05?

Blind faith isn't smart.

Dexcool is necessary for an all aluminum motor. It is silcone based causing it not to stick to the internal surfaces. I had this stuff on my old LS motors & didnt have an issue.

Wonder if it's not Dexcool, but FL-22 coolant.

Yep. Engineers designed the Vega motor, too!
