As far as the tranny is concerned, what is the 3650 rated at? I make 499hp and it's held up ok so far. It's notchy as hell, but it was like that factory stock. I guess my point is that a factory rating is not the end all be all of it. Before some make blanket statements about what the car can and can't do maybe we should wait until it actually comes out. By the end of this summer I would imagine we'll have a much clearer picture of its abilities and modability .
I think the old tranny was rated for only 360 ft/lbs so I wouldn't write off the new tranny just yet.

I dropped my subscripion to 5.0 a few years back just keeping Mustang Monthly and Mustangs & Fords.

I had checked a half a dozen stores up by me an NO ONE carries 5.0 Mustang !!

Finally read article online last week and just got done making a "MS Word" doc out of it. Separated the pics from the article body for easier reading ... article with very narrow margins is 14 PAGES, all the pictures with the explantions under them took up another 47 PAGES !!

Great stuff in this article, so I wanted to save a copy since I could not find it in any local stores.

Yeah that really is a great article. And that is truly a spectacular engine!

You are right, the 6R80 being based off the ZF has a very short first gear, but there's a gap between it and 2nd gear. The gearset is exactly the same as the ZF's which was probably designed with turbo diesels in mind: Extra short first gear to counter the slow revving nature, but a tallish second gear to harness the torque after inertia has been overcome.

Anyway back to the bum gears. I know one guy here in Australia that has fitted 3.45 gears (stock is 2.73) in a Falcon GT and anything over 3/4 throttle and he's facing the other direction. Bare in mind the Falcon GT weighs 4100lbs.

A 5 litre Mustang with 3.23 behind the auto and some very sticky rubber would not surprise me if it ran an extremely low 12.
