I mean lets be realistic here, what we want and what we get are 2 different things right?

Things get delayed for many reasons or pushed forward for many reasons.
Some good..some bad...

I think all in all we are in good hands.
Ford knows that certain mustang fans will drive only a mustang, but they also realize that some will defect to another car based on certain features.

I know i'm a tad off the subject here but I got a question about the new 5.0. Do you guys think it will run on regular 87 octane or will it be like every other 4V motor Ford has made and run on premium?

I think with gas prices being as high as they are Ford should try to make this car run on regular. That would be one key advantage over the competiton if they are able to do so. Even the old school 4th gen F Bodies required premium while the GTs ran on regular.

Existing info says the engine is designed to run on regular unleaded and that the 400hp number being thrown around was laid down on the same.

I have a feeling that if it does in fact produce a rated 400hp it will be premium recommended. It seems 2008 and newer engines have revised knock sensors to allow you to use regular and engine will adjust. So, I'm thinking 400hp premium recommended and if you use regular you might get 360-375 or so hp.

if the engine comes out and its rated 350-360 stock then I feel it wil be 87 only. and of course like the current stang, through on CAI and tune and prob make 400hp.

I was looking at Hyundai's new V-8 and noticed it makes 368 HP on regular and 375 HP with premium. I'm guessing if the new 5.0 makes 400 HP with premium it will make around 392 on regular gas.

hp from regular to premium wouldn't be a static number, more likly be percentage.

I don't see any reason why the upcoming 400HP DOHC 5.0 won't also include adaptive spark technology, much like the 2008 Bullitt which can run on both premium, and regular unleaded fuels.

That being said, if adaptive spark technology can work effectively on the SOHC 3v engine, then why can't it also be used on DOHC engines as well.

Agreed, I'm guessing 2 percent for premium versus regular.

I think the main discussion is the what fuel will need to be used for the rated hp.

It is nice to know on the current stang that you can put 87 in and get 300hp.

It would be nice if you could do the same on the 400hp 5.0 rather then having to be sad when putting in 87 knowing you aren't quite getting that 400hp. i dunno, maybe its just me that feels that way.

Don't worry, the new 5.0 will have adaptive spark technology on board. In fact, you will start to see it in models (Ford) other than the Mustang starting in 2009. There will also be a couple other neat features added to the ECM that are currently being worked on too, for the 5.0. The future looks great!

I understand where your coming from, and your definitely not the only one who feels that way.

Let's just say for ie, if the 400HP DOHC 5.0L gets 390 max HP with 87 octane.

All it would require, is a cold air intake, and a Bamachip's/Brenspeed tune with either an X-cal II, or Diablosport Predator, and you'll be well over the 400HP mark, even with 87 in your tank.

While were on the topic of fuel, will there be a significant advantage/hp difference with Direct Injection in these engines? I think having D.I. would make it slightly harder to modify, but would be more efficient in the long run. Thoughts?

BTW Im new here, Hello to everyone !!

WELCOME!

I don't think direct injection will make it any harder to modify, really all they are doing is spraying the fuel into the cylinder rather then in the ports.

I just hope they dont put the injectors in a really awkward place where its hard to get to. I just hope they will have some forged internals since it will be receiving 400hp.

I doubt it will have forged internals with 400 N/A hp. Hypereutetic pistons and powder forged rods are more than suffcient (I've seen powder forged rods rated for 600hp)

Official: Not confirmed for either
Best evidence (leaks): 2011
Overly optimistic: 2010

I can see a forged crank if the redline is over 6500 rpm. I noticed the new V-6s have forged cranks with a 6750 redline.
