You didn't read what I said.....They changed the part. about mid-year. It no longer looks like the one in your picture. There has been extensive discussion on this with pictures on another forum

You said it doesn't mate to any "aftermarket adapters". Who is using an aftermarket adapter? 401A shift boot and 401A shift **** is a completely OEM setup.

Not everyone wants to spend 4 times the cost for a round OEM **** to do the changeover.(compared to readily available Q-ball *****). The new boot looks like this and yes, will only mate with the OEM 401A ****.

Here's a thread showing some other options, and the boot change:

Luckily the parts guy at my local Ford Dealership had already sold a 401A shift **** to somebody and found out that you needed the 401A boot. So I got both for $138 with tax

Yup, my pops noticed this too when he installed his new boot last month. The chrome trim ring looks good IMO though.

So that is the new 401A boot, or the new 400A boot?

He says it's a 401a. Part # on the package reads: BR3Z-7277-B.

So this is definitely doable with OEM parts. Your dad's setup is exactly what I want to do. Get saddle leather, but have the 401a shift ****.

Yes. Just have to order the 401A boot and 401A **** and you're all set. He had to order each one from two sepeate dealers though since they seem to be hard to get a hold of right now. He got the **** local but had to order the boot from a dealer in another state.

I haven't seen any with the new shift pattern. You could get one made pretty easily at grabberpony.com

With the 401A ****, you can also use the GT500 shift boot. I wrote up a thread about this, as it does require some modification to fit properly.
