It's been discussed as one of the drawbacks of the 401 package...
Substitute it.

put a cloth over it when the car is left out in the sun. A sock would work perfectly....

I had my car in the sun for a few hours and it didn't seem too bad. I haven't seen any 100+ degree days yet though...

I am getting them tinted this weekend although i'm afraid the sun and heat is coming through the front windshield which won't be getting any tint.

Just wait, today is the first full sunny day and it's been sitting out there for about 5 hours.

So if I have a shift pattern embossed into the palm of my hand I guess I left my hand there too long?

It's not just the aluminum shift ***** that get hot, the leather **** on my '04 is the same way.

Get a sun shade for the windshield, I know they are a PITA but they work and not just for the shift ****, those leather seats get damned hot too.

Or, you could wear a glove on your right hand, get a sequin one...

I was able to put it into 1st but couldn't do anything from there on out, too hot to make it from one gear to another.

Or if you're in a real predicament use the sock you are wearing

You could always unscrew the shift **** (if it unscrews) and take it in with you on hot days. The sock idea is probably easier though.
