3,141 Miles and ready for repair...

My 5.0 has been very randomly grinding into second gear since about 600 miles. I've been able to deal with that until it gets worse. Worse came yesterday when my rear end started whining above my Shaker 500 cranked halfway up with AC/DC. Kicks in around 60mph.

Looks like I need to put my Explorer back together so I can turn in the Mustang for warranty work. I just hope they don't try to blame any of this crap on my suspension upgrades.

Is that the case? I've never had a car with a warranty so I wouldn't know.

If its something thats gonna take a few days to fix then most of the time they should, especially with something like this.

I would just bring it up and im sure they will give you a car. Granted you won't be able to choose but hey, its free! lol

Did you lower? to the point you changed the pinion angle?

I was wondering this as well. Hopefully there is not a connection.

Good luck, but I think they might give you a hard time because you dropped it, added drop brackets, and have changed the LCA's. They very well might be the cause of the rear end whine.

Return it to stock before you take it to the dealer.

Yeah I agree they will probably give you a hard time. I can't believe people lower their cars and don't check the pinion angle

It's been lowered since 100 miles. A 1.5" (actually a bit less) drop wouldn't throw off the pinion angle enough to cause a gear whine. Even if it was I've talked to a few 5.0 guys who also have gear whine but no drop.

I do have every stock part for the car but I'm gonna see what they say before I spend fourteen hours converting the suspension back to stock only to do it all over again.

...if you take it in with the mods, you don't get a second chance for them to repair it. Once they say no, I believe they mark your car in the system as to why they rejected you for repairs.

Not saying that's what caused it, not saying it's not.. but I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Next time you get rude please at least give me the respect to address me directly instead of making a blanketed passive aggressive statement like this.

I get your point, but time is money. I'd rather spend another couple hundred bucks and have a buddy install 4.10s because they refuse warranty work than kill most of a weekend with my family.

I noticed gear whine in the Brembo packaged car that I test drove. In 3rd if I remember correctly. It had the 3.73 gears. The 3.55 non Brembo packaged car I drove didn't have the same whine. I thought it had to do with the 3.73's but wasn't sure. The two cars had different mileages and were just two different cars so I don't think there is any connection to the lack of the 3.55 having the whine. It was certainly something I took note of in the 3.73 car though.

Sorry if you think I was RUDE. I was just pointing out the obvious. And for all I know you checked yours, but most don't or don't know to.

My car has the 3.55 gears but no whining so far. I test drove a couple 3.73 cars and I did notice a whine in them but neither had Brembo's.

Who says it a rear end problem and not a tranny or clutch issue? Return it to stock before you take it to the dealer or you may be sorry you didnt and end up spending a fortune to fix a problem that they would have covered.
