I have a Boss 302 and regularly rev it out to 6k between gears when safe to do so and get between 18-20 MPG on average, depending on how much highway miles are part of each tank... I think if you are driving your Mustang so that you rev to redline on every single shift that you must be one of 'those people' who are either constantly trying to impress everyone else with their exhaust note or 'check out how fast my ride is'...?
Driving your Mustang so that you never get under 18 MPG is nothing to brag about unless it's 100% city traffic. The Prius comment comes is lame, kylerohde has been posting on TMS for years and I'd never characterize him as needing to trade in his Stang for a Prius.
Not that he needs me to defend him, just sayin'...

Since I had a 2011 GT with 373 rear I averaged close to 28 on a flat open road near sea level cruises about 70 on the Jersey Turnpike. My new 2014 GT with 373's has never been on a long enough trip to measure MPG. My average is at 20 with a mixture of city and hwy driving. do not know if this will help or not. Oh to add I did have a tune and a boss intake on the 2011 which could have helped achieve 28mpg.

My commute is 75% city, and I have a "redline a day" rule. You know, to keep the mechanics away. But most of the time I'm in 6th gear by 42mph.
How do you shift? Next gear by 2200rpm? Also what is your commute like, and what is the final drive in your 'stang? With my driving habits and my commute I get my low fuel light every ~195-210 miles.

2012 6sp Brembo car with 3.73, no mods and I always use 93 octane. Have made several long road trips. For my tastes it gets a bit sketchy after 300 miles on a tank due to the high variability in consumption possible if you do really put your foot down here and there. I have put 12-15 in the tank at the pump filling up in the 300-320 range. And that is over the same drive filling up before I hit the road.
For the most part I get 16-18 in town, and the 18 takes intentional effort. Cruising on the highway peaks at 25mpg for 55-65, but it does not take to much time idling in slow/standstill traffic (often unpredictable) and or stretches at 70 or above to drop it to 22-23.
Best I ever got was a no rush trundle down a scenic byway with a 50-55 limit that I adhered to and max effort on getting good mileage. Filled up right before getting on and filled up after 300 miles almost spot on, 10 gallons. Not my typical modus operandi but it was cool seeing just how far I could stretch it.
This car really should have had 16 useable gallons, meaning an 18-20 gallon tank. The 16 gallon unit is of the few nits I have had with mine.

This is all good data. I will be able to refine this based on my observed MPG, rather than projected, once I complete my trip.
My overall split is probably 75% highway/25% city. I typically shift just before 3,000 and prob go 1-3-5 or 1-4-6 half the time. I don't ever consciously try to get great mileage, I just drive her car pretty normally for me and have plenty of fun on open roads when there's no traffic around me. The 3.31 gears def help my overall mpg.

Before I had my rear end overhauled on my 2013 GT I could get 26 MPG on the highway going 65 with the cruse control on. After the rear end was rebuilt I only get 24 MPG highway? I must say though I like the lack of gear whine now!

2014 Mustang GT 16 gallon tank reserve
Kyle, I have the gas receipt from Ft. Leavenworth. I will edit this once I look at it...I think you are correct. Update: The receipt tells me I pumped 14.339 gallons. Interesting, more than a gallon and a half of reserve (1.661 gallons). So once the IC warns you that there is zero mile to empty, you in fact have at least 22.5 miles to find a petrol station. Wow! Calculated mileage: 22.25 MPG (60 highway/40 city). I now feel safe.

Highway: 23.1 MPG @ 70 MPH Safe Range: 341 miles Maximum Range: 369 miles
City: 15 MPG (economy shifting) Safe Range: 221 miles Maximum Range: 240 miles.
Combined Average: 19 MPG Safe Range: 280 miles Maximum Range: 304 miles
Highway: 23.1 MPG @ 70 MPH Safe Range: 341 miles Maximum Range: 369 miles

Ouch man, middle of nowhere Indiana. lol We usually say that crossing Kansas on I-70 since it takes about 8 hours to cross. Been to Goodland? That's the middle of nowhere!
You shouldnt be far from a gas station in Indiana no matter where you are.
We took a road trip down to Tennessee in May to drive the Tail, and Blue ridge parkway. On the Highway we were averaging 24-27 avg speed 75, in the mountains 20-22. I dont have the specifics any more.
I have a 6 speed MT, 3:55 rearend, and no performance mods.

My GT is my daily, and my commute consists of mostly cruising with some lights and highway for 50% of it. During that stretch I drive 65-75 in a 65 zone.
I average right around 20-22 on a daily commute, but struggle to hit 20 over an entire tank once short trips in town and some "spirited" driving is included. Most tanks hit at 19.5ish.
The highest I have seen in a highway setting was 24... Over a tank was 22 mpg. 3.73s seem to hurt the mpg over 65 mph... Just like my focus st was... Definitely not geared ideally for highway milage... 6th gear is not necessary in the quarter or and road racing or track settings outside of standing mile... So why not make it spin 2k at 80? Rather than before 70 mph.
Anyway, it's not too bad, even if I hammer it around town and rev it out I'll get above 17

I was coming from the Kansas City area with my first stop for fuel in Hannibal, Missouri. After that, I was not planning to fill up until Warsaw, Indiana. The IC chimed at 50, 25, 10, and zero...yet I still had 30 miles to go. I gritted my teeth and nervously pushed on. I filled up in Warsaw with premium (93 Octane) and noted I still had 0.7 gallon remaining in the tank after 370.8 miles. I was glad I did run it so low because the performance tune Brenspeed installed had good gas to work with. After that episode, I felt comfortable in letting the IC chime to zero and then start looking for a filling station. Worked out great!

I have a 2014 TP Manual with 3.73 gears and get 22-24 highway and 18-19 with about a 50-50 mix of highway and city driving. I only run 91 or 93 octane gas. With my F150 Ecoboost I gain about 2 mpg going from 87 to 89 octane but didn't see a noticeable difference going up to 91. I also see about a 2 mpg drop when they switch from Summer to Winter gas blends.

What the heck are you all doing to get over 20MPG. I have a 2014 GT track car and I can not get over 14.9 LOL
