2014 GT clunking noise from rearend when I shift gears. Sounds like the ring and pinion has too much lash. Also has noisy whine and light roar from differential. Has anyone else had this problem?

these cars have a good bit of slop in the drivetrain, partly due to the extra joint in the middle of the driveshaft . . . . is this new, or has it always been like that?

Just bought it a couple months ago. I’m gonna got it on a hoist and check the center driveshaft joint and carrier. Definitely not the tranny. Rearend is fairly noisy as well, so could be lash in the differential.

I wound up replacing my old 2 piece driveshaft with the Ford Performance nee Dana aluminum 1 piece, directly because of the clunking of the carrier, and also the carrier can't be replaced (or maybe it can, but I can't find that info, and I really wanted to be done with it with an easier to deal with, lighter, better driveshaft. MAN. Car really takes off in comparison to that old driveshaft!

The install at the axle side is a *ROYAL* pain, to be honest. Freakin' weirdo bolt setup. But it works, and I feel it was worth it. Of course, mine's an 06, but if that helps, then it helps, right? So I hope it does!

/I gotta deal with the differential itself one day, I'm thinkin', but not just yet.
//Haay... I gotta add that to the signature, how'd I miss that? *runs off to edit*

You might want to check out your upper control arm bushing and the differential top bushing. If it is a manual and it makes that clunk when you are heavily accelerating this is something to check on depending on how much power you are making....common issues on GT500 models.
