Now hold your fingers up to make 2 inches. Now do you really think that's going to mean a dam thing to 662hp 631tq? The 335 might do a little, but very little.

While I'm sure a wider tire would help,
There are other forces at play here that will help with traction.

You don't really think they'd slap over 100hp on and just call it a day.
Lets all wait and see how it performs first before being a keyboard engineer ...

Put that in perspective- That's like saying 2 inches the other way wont be a detriment? So if this thing road in on 10 inch rear tires all would be well with the world...

2 inches would absolutely make a difference- 4 would be astounding. This thing isn't even in the same league, hell it's not even the same sport when looked at competing sizes.

this engine is hands down one of the most impressive things to come out of ford, pretty much ever. And yet it's using tires that were on the thing from 2005.

The verbal diarrhea that spewed from Hameedi's mouth on why they continue to use 285's is a bunch of corporate blah blah Bullsh1t for not spending the time/money to use it on an outgoing platform. And you can see him clearly not understand his own reasonings along the way.

Really? Over tires?

If the owners (me) want bigger tires, I'll go out and buy them. If you're getting this car and you're too strapped for cash to do whatever you think needs to be done to the car, you shoulda bought a GT.

I'll drive it with the oems and if they're not sufficient I'll replace them. No need to go all Michael Scott on ford for not using duallies for rear tires.

The reason they continue to use a 285 tire has been beaten to death, but since you seem to be a vehicle dynamics and tire engineer you can't believe it. Go ahead, slap a 315 on the rear of your car and see what happens to the handling when driven hard.

So when this thing bangs out 1/4 mile times in the 11's it still wont be good enough because it ONLY has a 285 rear tire? Just because other cars have wider tires doesn't mean it's right for this car. I can see if this car spun it's way to mid 12's that people would be upset, but it's all speculation and denial.

That tried and true excuse of effecting handling in this modern era is garbage. Youre drinking the Hameedi koolaid. Half the cars I mentioned have larger or the same up front as what the gt500 has in the rear. You think the Viper with 295s wont be able to track?? One engineers it. To say this car would not be better with bigger tires, you're living a fanboy dream. It's an after thought for 2013.

Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords' Evan Smith, someone who's actually been behind the wheel of a 2013 Shelby GT500, said this in regards to launching the new GT500,

"While the '07-'11 GT500s are fast machines, launching one can be a challenge, especially with stock tires. For the '13, Ford solved this problem with the introduction of Launch Control and Traction Control systems to maximize acceleration with minimal or, in most cases, zero slip. And believe us, the acceleration will quench even the thirstiest horsepower junkies. We got to experience these driver aids, and they are nothing short of amazing."

And, like someone's said before, just because a 345 rear tire works well on, say, a Viper, that doesn't necessarily mean an identical set-up is ideal for a Shelby GT500. I'm assuming the engineers have to take vehicle dynamics, weight distribution and a myriad of factors into account when developing a wheel and tire package.

Personally, given the fact this car hasn't even been released, yet, I'm going to wait until people begin getting their hands on them, especially before accusing others of being kool-aid-drinking fanboys.

Now tell me how many of these have a solid rear axle.. I'm not saying its a bad thing, it's just a whole different beast. I'll also trust that the engineers know what they are doing.

Cue the Ford employees pointing and laughing at the keyboard engineer.

Ford opted for writing code- which is 1/10 the cost than designing an all new part of the chassis- of which the S197 never dreamed of having 660hp back in 2005. Hameedi just needs to acknowledge that. But as stated- he says 285 is "the perfect all around tire for this car. Because once you have a bigger front, your steering will go into the toilet. So a reality check is to go look at cars that are known to have amazing steering precession, turn in response, things such as that so look at their front tire... the front tire size is a big deal"

I did exactly what he said with the list I made above...

when 2015 drops with 335s w/ 285 suddenly everyone will understand.

So exactly how would it be better? Would steering feel improve? How about turn-in? Less understeer? Road wander? There's more to consider when developing a vehicle than all out track prowess, especially a car like the Mustang. Just because it works on high-priced exotics where their owners don't drive them much and will put up with some trade-offs on the street doesn't mean a Mustang owner will. In a lot of cases, a Mustang is the owners only car so it has to be many things to many people. Not just an all out beast and a not enjoyable to drive everyday. Of all the cars you listed I'm sure at least 98% of the owners have other cars and only drive them occasionally. The benefits of a bigger tire on a Mustang do not outweigh the negatives for the demographic. Which is very different than an exotic car owner.

If your car was a chore to drive and you had to constantly make steering corrections while going straight and it turned-in like crap, would you be a happy owner and want to drive it everyday? I'm sure you've heard this saying your whole life, "it's not the size but how you use it".
