2013 GT Track Pack, My First Impressions

I got a call from my dealer (Koons of Baltimore) that they got their first Track Pack GT in. Even though I have a Boss 302 and GT500 on order (still debating on which one) I figured I'd see what the black GT had to offer with the Track Pack.

Exterior:

I'm still not sure if I'm completely sold on the looks of the 2013 GT. It's like a watered down attempt at a GT500. I think it can look very good with some minor tweaks but in stock form it doesn't do a lot for me. Not bad by any means but doesn't get my heart racing. The effect of the rear blackout is somewhat lost but at least the black plastic around the license plate isn't as in your face. Ford really needs to get rid of the 4x4 look on the next new Mustang as this car screams for at least an inch drop.

Interior:

The Track Apps are really nice. The screen is easy to read and the amount of real time information is incredible. I was able to find my way around the menu system very easily. As for audio, the Shaker does sound better. This car did not have the Pro but the door subs hit much deeper than before. Will it make an audiophile happy? Probably not but it's a better system and quite frankly think the Pro is a waste of money. The Recaro seats are very comfortable (I'm 6'4" 230) and I didn't find myself sliding around even with them being all leather. Certainly a must have option for anyone who will do performance driving. The rest of the interior is the same standard fair back from the 2010 model year. I wish they would have done a little more with it. While it's still better than the rest of the muscle car competition that cheap door plastic has to go!

Performance:

Considering I've been driving a 2012 Focus since November anything is going to seem fast. However, I really enjoyed driving the GT. Not as much power as my 2011 GT500 but the power you do have is more usable on the street. The steering feels good in sport mode but too sloppy in the others. Braking and handling seem on par with the 2011 and 2012 GT I've driven. I certainly wasn't going to ride the car too hard given it's not mine. LOL While the car feels fast the exhaust doesn't. It's way too quite stock and takes some life out of the car.

Overall:

I was pretty impressed with the GT. It's certainly a tide me over option to 2015 if I decide not to spend the big money on the Boss or GT500. If I was an owner of a 2011 or 2012 GT there isn't any real reason to upgrade here. Any loss you'd take is a lot of money for Track Apps! The 05-10 crowd it might be worth a look for you. There is a lot of car here for the money.

Thanks for the unbiased and honest review. It's about what I expected the car to be, an improvement but not a wow improvement. Either way, I am exited for mine. If I still had my 12 (may she rest in one piece) I would certainly keep it, strictly due to styling. I'm excited to see how the car will do with actual track testing. I know the prior GT was up there with the M3. Hopefully the track pack really blows it away this time around.

Your right, it just sits up to high. Does installing lowering springs void the warranty? I sure wish car dealers would leave there decals off the rear . This seems to be common everywhere except in the west coast

Warranty you will have to work out with your dealer. It would prob void the suspension and strut warranty, but that's it.

As per the dealer sticker, I told my dealer that if they put a sticker on it, I walk away from the car. They complied.
