Order bank opens Nov. 18th 2010
Scheduling begins Dec. 2nd 2010

very interesting.......Now I will have to decide on an 11GT or 12GT.

Wonder when the last time is you can place an order for an 11GT?

I wonder if recaro's will be an option now

Wow, I would have never guessed such an early end to the 2011 model year. Typically the Mustang line at AAI changes over in late June or early July. Granted, we knew 2011 would start early to get the 5.0L to market sooner, but January 2011 for the 2012's to begin production??? Strange!

Seems very hard to believe. The standard changeover is second half of July. My understanding was that Ford would ride the 2011 until July 2011.

"01/14/11 - 2011 MY Job Last Date" was left off the original post.

This is truly amazing. If this is correct (and I have no reason to question it or believe it at this point), Ford is really accelerating their updates to the Mustang platform. They would have no reason to begin 2012 production so early unless they have significant updates to release. This could really hurt 2011 MY sales, just like it did the 2010's ...folks will keep holding off buying ...now that this rumor has started.

This would be a good way for Chevy to tamp down 2011 MY Mustang sales ...release a rumor about early 2012 Mustang production.

Hmmmmm.

I too find it strange, almost a full year beforehand. Hopefully 2012 will be the long year, so my car will keep its value longer...

I'll add the Last date to the original post.

I don't think the early 2012 will hurt 2011 much (other than being a 10 month year). There's only one SE coming out that could affect orders for 2011's.

Very strange indeed. Cue speculation. I can't imagine it's anything big, but maybe something they want to get out sooner rather than later that needs a model year change. The crash ratings are the only thing I can think of, if they're planning to make any upgrades to the chassis in the face of the new harsher crash rating system. No rumors of chassis changes though, and I don't know how much that would entail, though it might make sense if there were just a few small tweaks they could make to up it a classification level. It would go with that random 2010 rating sheet and the observed reluctance to get the 2011 tested.

Alternatively they may just be taking the opportunity of a nill change model year (after 2010 and 2011, who can blame them for 2012 having next to no changes?) to pull the usual model change forward in anticipation of the supposed complete chassis change in 2014, trying to position themselves to make a late model change then and end up roughly right where we are now.

Your dates are a year off based on the dates on BON. These dates don't make sense either. We should see the 2012 Mustang hitting lots by Sept. 2011 so the order baks opening in Nov. makes no sense at all. The 2012 Mustang will not be released in the Spring of 2012. It will be in the Fall of 2011 at the latest.

It is very hard to believe that the 2011 mustang will only be produced for ten working days in 2011. It just doesn't make sense. I understood the March launch of the 2011 to get the new drive trains out, but this doesn't make any sense at all.

Wow, they're really working on moving up the model years quite a bit. I know the Taurus, Fiesta, Edge, and Fusion are right around June 1 launches, but I would have thought the Mustang would follow suit. On the other hand, they may want to have a decent amount on hand so that when the weather warms up and prime selling season is in effect, they'll be ramped up 100% for that.

This means we'll see more info on the 2012 as early as the LA auto show, if not Detroit.

If I remember correctly, 08 Bullitt was "Job 2" and they started production in Dec 07. So they're moving it up like 6 mos.

Its probably just a money thing...some gov required fuel/safty 2012 rating...so maybe ford is already there with mustang, and such make its 2012 production faster....

That or there bringing out that long rumored electric/turbo/ motor that runs on water... ;-)
