2012 vs 2013 Automatics

I have been looking at the 2013's and know all about the select shift what I was wondering how does that compare to the 2012 Auto's? Also how is the 2012 Auto's laid out (1,2,3,D, etc) Thanks

couldn't care less about the select-shift, an auto will never be a manual...

But putting it in Spot-Mode on the other hand is absolutely sick, it's like turning on an aggressive tune, it holds gears to much higher RPMs, down shifts like nuts and locks out OD. really turns the car into an animal

Received my 13 gt recently. Personally I love the option of being able to control the gears when I want and when not, drive in usual automatic mode. For regular auto driving, place in D and for spirited mode, S. The car won't switch gears unless you click on + or -. When the car stops, it goes to 1st gear. I agree with Cinque35 and you don't need a tune.

I test drove 12 and I like 13 better for this issue.

I returned my auto back to stock last week and I'm here to tell you that if you have an auto and don't have a tune you are missing out on so much. Even if you don't change anything with the fuel/timing set up the tranny changes alone make the time worth it. I'm sure select shift will be a hoot with a tune when you can bang gears and bark the tires on the 1/2 and 2/3 shift

I'd be courious as to how long the automatic can stand up to all the "bang" shifting with the tune installed. I doubt it was desined for that type of long term punishment.

Time (and reported posts) will tell.

I've had a pretty aggressive Bama tune on my 05 since 2007, and the tranny has held up beautifully. A MUST for any auto.

Well I would say the abuse would be more driveline oriented then tranny. The trans actually "slips" less when it shifts hard so it may even cause less wear.

Good point. I can recall installing B&M shift kits in Trans-AM's I bought back in the 80's (long before transmission shifts were crontrolled by engine management systems). The harder/firmer shifts did indeed help the wear and tear by not allowing slippage, a big cause for wear in a transmission.

On another note, can a transmision cooler be installed on these Mustangs? I'm assuming the automatics of the GT's or higher end engines can come from the factory with one installed from the factory. Can these be installed on the V6 models? Anyone have knowledge and/or part numbers for this? I drive about 200 miles round trip a day, and I know heat can be a factor in an auto transmissions life.

I can see what you mean about a tune waking up a auto...hmmm something to think about. How are guys getting around warranty issues with the tune? Just switch it back to stock I assume when you need work performed? Just curious...

That's why I'll never buy a used Mustang.
