2012 Mustang V6 HP?

Now that GM bumped up the Camaro V6 hp to 312. Think Ford is going for the 315HP for the V6?

Any ideas when 2012 production will start?

Ford should just leave the power ratings as is, let the poor, lowly, under-powered Mustang show the cumaro how to do it...

Exactly,
let the numbers speak for themselves, let's not play their "i've got more than you " game.

Doesn't need the HP numbers game.
It weighs less. It is faster.

I read an article that GM just re-certified the car at 312hp and that the engine is unchanged. SO... it won't be any faster

The mustang has so many advantages over the Camaro especially the 6er. It seems unnecessary to up hp just for the sake of doing so. Weight will keep the Camaro out of the running until it looses a couple of hundred pounds.

That said, Chevy has a good looking car and the more they improve the Camaro, the more likely it is ford will improve the mustang. Doesn't work out that badly for those of us who are into the blue oval.

Right now the ball is in GM's court to deliver following the announcement of the Boss. They're working on the Z28, but I suspect Ford is already working on something for the GT500 to counter and keep it on top. GM would have been wise to just leave the car rated at 304hp and let people dyno them and find that they're a little more potent than that in the Camaro.

GM still needs to come up with some performance options instead of reskinning the car in new colors and tacky badge packages like the TF one from 2010. If it were up to me, adding the optional 3.73 gear to the 2SS package and some sort of retuned suspension package would be at the top of the list. Not to mention they have NO counter for a V6 perf. package or the Boss 302.

It's all about marketing. The average consumer only knows "more is better" so marketers use the HP numbers. Realistically, I'd rather see torque numbers since that's more of what you feel every time you stomp the gas. But that would be pretty embarrassing for most of the 4-bangers.

When you get marketers to stop making "numbers" work for the brand they're advertising, let me know.

This is a late comment to the question above.
Ford just has to improve the already good air intake system they are using (just look at what gains the after market is getting) and maybe replace the muffers with less restricing ones (again look at the after market ones) you can get at lease 10 more hp and a better sound (maybe more like a GT ?) Even if the Mustang is now beating the Camero now a lot of people buy because of how much hp a car puts out. ( advertised that is)

GM did what they do best, lie to their customers. the added horsepower was nothing but paper power. the car is the same thing as last year. fat and slow.

Last year I predicted Ford would up the V6 hp rating, before GM did. I figured they kept it a little lower so they wouldn't hurt 2010 GT clearance sales. I feel like Ford may have considered it, until GM did the "on paper" upgrade to the Camaro V6 and then decided it wasn't worth it to get into the numbers game. Let the Mustang V6 continue to smash on the competitors with "less" hp.
