2012 Mustang premium steering wheel on a base
2012 Mustang premium steering wheel on a base
Does anyone know what is required to get a premium steering wheel/audio controls to work on a base? Is it simply plug and play? Not sure how relevant but I'll be installing an aftermarket double din head unit using a metra kit.

Consider searching the subforums by selecting the search function menu located above on the home page... When the drop-down box window displays, type in "premium steering wheel retro fit on base model"... Then click on the OK button... You should then come across a listing of previous thread submissions that are related to your topic... Meanwhile, best of luck on your search and welcome aboard...
Tried and only got my thread as a result. Do have a link?Ive done a lot of searching and while there is a . of info on pre2010 retrofits from a 2010-2014 theres not a ton on same year swaps. Ive read its plug and play as well as oe ford diag tool is needed to load the audio from a premium onto the audio part of computer.

link or something to go on?
I've searched all over and the results are sparse and inconsistent. I'm planning on the audio control module needing flashing and potentially some wiring harness mods if I attempt it. Though I did pickup a metra dash kit which according to metra will attempt to talk to the car, presumably the ACM, and program the controls. If correct still may or may not require flashing from a premium/boss model, I don't know. I'd kinda figured at first they'd all use the same harness like a lot of cars do for a lot of things but I've read plenty to the contrary.

Well I got my metra dash kit and JVC head unit installed. Won't be using idatalink as metra advised me they don't always work well together. Found a decent deal on a 2012 premium steering wheel so I'm just gonna put it in, see if/how the harnesses differ, and see what happens I guess. The metra led display gives you the option to load steering wheel controls in settings. Not sure if it requires an acm premium model reflash or not.
