Like I said in the Boss thread where they also posted this info. I think Ford is ok with losing out to the Z28 for the 2012 model year. They are betting GM on every other level of muscle car.

Almost no changes on the GT, so you should get a similar price, the only change might be if Ford changed option prices.
As it seems I could have gotten a 2012 with the options I ordered on the 2011 and gotten a few extras like a garage door opener, lighted vanity mirror, and EPAS adjustment. Might have liked that last one.
Still confused by the Boss's peak torque being less than the standard GT.

The engine is tuned for making power in the higher RPM range, along with a different intake system, suited for road racing use. It was mentioned in various articles this was the tradeoff for Boss engine's characteristics.

Incorrect, the Z28 from everything I've read so far is the CTS-V Coupe minus the lux. That car is faster in stock form than a 2011 GT500 with the SVT Package. Weight is only one factor but the CTS-V hooks up much better in stock trim.

At this time I think the GT500 is a great vehicle and would be a waste of their money trying to prep it against the Z28. Too much needs be done to match wits with what SHOULD be the Z28. I think GT500 owners will still be laughing all the way to the bank with the money they saved on the GT500s. I would, I'b buy a GT500, be happy with all the incredible performance I had and not have to pay the insane price that will be tagged to the Z28's and their Gas Guzzler Tax. Also ADMs.
But from Ford's stand point why waste the needed cash. GM is still hemoraging. Just doesn't seem like a smart business move. We will see all that unfolds when the Z28 comes out. It will be awesome no doubt. Are there other cars that tickle my fancy just the same? Yep.

They don't know what the Z28 is going to bring to the fight, so they'll let GM lead and then they will counter. Is there even a true launch date for the Z?

That WOULD be the one thing I'd be inclined to do if I were Ford. Cause it's got plenty of power, but controlling it is an issue that the CTS-V seems to have figured out a little more. I totally agree with you, I am just saying if they were to make some kind of major overhaul it wouldn't make any sense. Launch control like the CTS-V would be a great addition.

As for the Boss' launch control being fitted to help the GT500. It's not a traction enhancing feature, just a way to hold your desired RPM until the clutch is released. It's a factory two-step limiter.

Yes, the Recaros ARE that comfortable. I spent some quality time in the Boss at the LA auto show on Wednesday. The dyno was not up and running yet, but the chaps from Ford in the leather jackets were most informative. The Laguna Seca had the Recaros and the regular Boss had the standard seats (cloth). Either way, it was a comfortable feel. The Recaro option also includes the Torsen diff, at least on the Boss. If you are going to have a top dog Mustang, like a GT500 - Recaros are a must, for me. There were no GT500s at the show. At least, not in the Ford area.

Looks like the base steering wheel was not updated to leather.
What kind of top does the base convert have? Vinyl? The premium has a cloth top.
Not very many changes for 2012.
Kind of odd they give the wheel size but not the tire size for the Boss? Are people willing to give up their leather seats to have a Boss? I guess they also have to give up the power seats and garage door opener.
Sounds a lot like the base GT I ordered. Also kind of the same as the old Cougar eliminator in 69-70; you could only get the base interior and not the XR7 interior.

Transmission changes on 2012?
Anyone have any idea why the 2012 Order Guide has the GT Premium engine, manual, and automatic all marked with a star as "New for this model year"? The base GT and V6 aren't marked as such.
I was going for a 2011, but was wondering about this!
