Is Ford finally getting rid of the horrible integrated key fob that they've been using since 2008/2009-ish? I'm looking at the 2012 GT but if it uses an antiquated key fob and key, I'm going to wait a few more model years before replacing my 07. A lot of Ford's competitors and even Mazda have keyless entry and ignition, which works beautifully. I rented a 2010 Nissan and I use a button on the dash to turn on or turn off the engine.

Doesn't the new Fiesta have full keyless entry? It's definitely a feature I would love to have. I doubt we'll see it until the 2014 redesign. The current dash layout doesn't have any good places for a start button.

 

I rented a 2010 Mustang V6 and the integrated fob/key was so large that it kept digging into my thigh when it was in my pocket. I hate having to use a key to start the car when almost every Japanese/German car has the latest keyless ignition/entry system. Mazda has had it for nearly 10 years now.

I'd settle for going back to the older fob/key since it is at least smaller.

Keyless would be nice but if Ford doesn't offer it on the Mustang I won't be mad.

 

That one on the right is a switchblade key? That would certainly take care of the digging into the thigh problem.

I too rented a Nissan on a recent trip but I found the keyless setup to be an annoying gimmick. The range was extremely limited... you have to stand within a couple of feet of the door or trunk to get it to unlock. So I found myself using the remote unlock just like any other car - take it out of my pocket and push the button when approaching the car. Since I already had key in hand, the start button was no advantage. Chacun son goût (to each his own).

 

I agree with you that I really wished it came with a push-button start. Even my friend's RAV4 has it.

Heck even if they had to make it as an option, or only on the high end models, that would have been better.

But like stangfoeva said, personally speaking I wouldn't base my decision to buy/not buy a car based on the keyfob.

 

I guess we all have our priorities. I really couldn't car less about push button start but I'd have a hard time buying a new car that didn't have Sync.

 

i agree with that i was looking at a new S4 and was surpirsed that MMI doesnt have half the functionality that sync does. I use the voice control for ipod and sirius everyday i wouldnt want to give that up for a more expensive car...

 

I wish the emergency button would be indented so that it's not so easy to accidentally press it

 

Guess what - the 2012 GT will also have a VERY antiquated live rear axle. Most of us don't care. Like the key, it has proven to not be detrimental to a great driving experience.

Did I really just read that??? You wont buy a 5.0 because of the key. I agree! Unless the 2012 Model comes with sheepskin floor mats and bamboo from the finest forest in china I refuse to take the car!

i'm surprised no one else used that quote yet. i prefer having an actual key and turning the ignition. maybe i'm old school, but i don't like too many electronics taking over the small essentials like getting into my car and turning it on.

 

Maybe we should go back to horse drawn carriages while we're at it. I think it's a legitimate complaint considering it's standard on the $14,320 Fiesta, not really a deal breaker for me though. The amount of electronics in modern cars is astonishing, and it's only going to increase.

 

I definately wouldn't hold back on a new car acquisition just because it doesn't have keeless entry and start button. Maybe cuz i'm olf fashion too.

Dang, my '45 Ford pickup had a push button start.....and no vent windows.....and locking steering......nothing new, just another "thing" to call new.

But....to not buy because of it....sounds to me like a reason to use instead of saying you cannot afford one......just my thoughts.....
