Yea, and they even had 2 keys. One that would open the doors, and one to open the trunk . The one thing I hated was vacuum operated wipers. Boy, those were fun

The original VW Beetle had windshield washers that were powered by the air in the spare tire. If your washers stopped working it was usually because your spare was flat.

With my 2011 Mustang, if I go out and find the car's battery is totally dead and the power locks don't function, I can just unlock the door mechanically. What happens in these cars that don't have a mechanical key, just the wireless fob? I'm sure there's a way to get in, but I haven't heard how it's done.

This is where your credibility is lost.

Maybe I am unique here...I sometimes work in a warehouse setting...but how many of us have used our keys similar to a knife to open boxes?? That comes in handy! Can't do that with a remote/fob! I on the other hand dont think my cellphone is comfortable in my pocket...but with todays society we probably won't quit carrying those. I wear cargo pants often just so I can move my wallet and phone into the low side pockets. I dont think picking (or not picking)a car because of the key is normal, but I won't judge.
Instead of a button maybe we could do a fingerprint scanner in the car! Scan your finger to start!?

I dont see what the big deal is really. I have an Infiniti G37 (getting rid of soon) and my wife has a Nissan Altima, both with NIssan's Intellikey system. Its nice, but not a deal-maker or breaker. Its probably the best implementation of the system I have seen so far, with Toyota/Lexus right behind, but it doesn't excite me. i'm actually excited to get back to a key ignition with the Mustang I'll be getting soon. To each his own.

I love keys. So simple and mechanical, nothing to go wrong with it. Of course starters these days are all electronic anyway, even the current Mustang is basically a push button start, just with tapping the key to the start position for a moment, but it's still nice to be able to lock and unlock doors and trunks with a simple mechanical backup in case some battery dies or something. It's also nicely retro in the face of so many push button starts these days.

Its not standard on the fiesta. You have to get an ses or sel.

But anyway ford does have the technology as its already on the fiesta, taurus, edge, and explorer. With every one of those though it started at a redesign so i'm willing to bet it wont be on the stang until the 2014 or whenever the new one comes out.
