2012 meets 1968
This could be interesting. Not the first time someone's tried to meld the S197 with classic bodywork (think Retrobuilt and their gorgeous, if ill-proportioned efforts), but early signs are looking positive

while the idea is great..I do suspect the fundamental flaw with all these cars is proportions. The 69-70 is a long car. And these never seem to pull off the long low look of the 69. To me they always seem short ans squat.
But I'll hold off final judgement till I see it finished.
And if he's smart he'll ditch the crosseyed HID look. And right now it's got a HUGE smiley face. Not a good look IMO.

While I appreciate the work going in to that project, there's a few things I just don't see right about it. The roof line and fenders look very awkward.

Dammit Doug, you're so in tune with what I like......I just wish I had your skill to render what I see in my mind!
I was thinking it'd look better with the non-HID headlamps.....and you're right about the length. I fear it'll be another one where the wheelbase will appear too short....but lets give him time

Lots of hours and craftmanships go into buiding these retro-look cars, but i don't see Ford going down this route with the next redesign Mustang. Something is just off with the proportions.

OK, a quick update. I contact the shop where this is being fabricated and got the following reply, including some new photos

Thanks for the interest in this project It is the handy work of one of my young trainees “Johnny Sparks” I’ve had him here at my shop for three years and he has become an outstanding craftsmen at the age of 22. He is a vintage Mustang enthusiast also restoring a 65 fastback of his own and he has been involved with doing some very serious metal work on several other 68 fastbacks, vintage Ferraris and Alfas and such that we do here at our shop.
This recent new Mustang blend with vintage look is just a side line project for him and I, we hope to have it finished in time for SEMA. If you notice our concept Mustang is all redesigned sheetmetal that is painstakingly cut, trimmed, sectioned, redirected, blended, and tig welded welded into one panel and metal finished before it is welded back on the unibody, as if it was meant to fit, not just a fiberglass panel bonded on to the existing outer body. Note the change in wheel arch height with lowering the car this has to be done to get away from that very heavy look that some of those other retro cars have. The blend of the vintage door skin with the original, the rear window is also raised an inch and a half and lots of other details that are hard to describe. The deck lid is still in the design phase as well. But one thing is sure it will have a different look than anything seen before, but should be favorable to most Mustang enthusiast young and old! We hope anyway. Well for now the show must go on and we have a shop load of customers car waiting to get finished so don’t expect things to happen over night for we are just a very small restoration shop with way more to do than possible but we keep at it each day!
I’ll let you be my media guy with that web site for I don’t have a lot of time to keep up with all that stuff, so if you wish you can also pimp my older projects to help create some foundation for this recent 2011 68 blend, I see there will be a lot of talk about this and I’ll let you speak for me in general terms of the project for that is one of the reasons for us doing it just to show the world you don’t necessarily need to accept what is given, and why be the same as the next guy that’s no fun!
It’s been a while since we Auto Kraft here in Lincoln, Nebraska hit the Mustang/ Ford world with something unique and Johnny Sparks was ready to give it a go. You may remember one of my earlier modified Mustangs from the early 90’s a 89 Mustang GT that I chopped and widened the qrts, & fenders on and painted grabber blue back in the 90’s it was a pretty different looking concept for a Fox body and got a lot of looks where ever it went, I still have the car and should clean it up a bit and get it on the market. My chopped Mustang also lead to me being involved with building the short Wheel-base Thunderbird SC back in the 90’s as well. You can find a fair amount of info on them by googling swb thunderbird sc.
Also be sure to take a look at my new rotisserie www.rollerhoop.com for vintage Mustang restoration work, I included a picture of Johnny Sparks during restoration of a 68 ½ 428 cj fastback.

I just found these guys on Hubgarage ( http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/autodoug/vehicles take a look at their other work!), so here are even more photos!
You can see how far they dug into the donor 2011 (I wouldn't be able to watch a brand new Mustang go under the knife!!)
