Both transmissions have 2.73 and 3.31 axles available

The only question I have remaining is why the EPA rating for the auto is 2mpg higher than the stick? Fluke in the EPA testing or is the auto that much more efficient on the highway than the manual (or does .691 vs .70 make that much difference on the highway?)? Interesting ...
Base 17" A/T tires are Michilen Energy Saver x 215 mm wide
Base 17" M/T tires are BFG Radial T/A x 225 mm wide
... I'm sure this has a little something to do with the better EPA MPG.

However, the base V6 A/T I saw at my dealer last week had the 225 mm wide BFG's on it.

With the 2.73's, the engine was theoretically turning 1052 RPM in O/D ... I'm surprised it will dog down this low without down shifting. With the 3.31's, 45 MPH would be 1274 RPM.

Ford did all it could to get the auto to get better mileage, tires and taller overdrive, and i'm guessing there is one reason why, to sell a $1000 option to people in the way of an automatic transmission.

In the past it was a no brainer, hmm why pay extra for an auto to be less fun and suck up more gas?

I won't give up a manual trans or $1000 for 1 more mpg.

So...

Guess they need to reduce the national speed limit to 45 mph, then we all get automatic 3.7 Mustangs with 2.73 gears. That way Ford will beat the CAFE standards by a bunch!
