I assumed manual, you said an average advantage but handn't clarified and Brian mentioned 1st was very steep. Therefore it could be possible that an average including a very steep 1st and no change 2nd, 3rd and 4th could still provide an average advantage. Which is why I asked.

Cool, I just wanted to make sure. The Auto does have a deep 1st gear but its pretty even after that.

I did all of my math based on the automatic. Even though we (as enthusiasts) might prefer a manual trans, the V6/Automatic is the volume leader in the Mustang lineup, so I thought it would be most relevant to most buyers, IMO.

Maybe that's why the new auto is rated with better MPG than the new manual. If it sells more, it helps average fuel economy, right? But what transmission do the auto journalists use to test for track times?

I understand now and agree the auto will be the sales leaders. I'm looking at buying a manual transmission so I was looking at those numbers.

I'm just happy Ford is offering this kind of performance and this can only mean good things for the 2011 GT.

The auto is a "sales leader" not by the choice of people, but because that's what Ford wants to ship dealers. I remember looking at a lot for GT's a few years back, dealer said Ford will only ship him 1 manual for every 6 cars.

Reminds me of an old saying: there's an island with only two types of people, liars and non-liars. If everyone says they're a non-liar, how can you believe the ones who say they lie?

When I bought mine, the dealer said the GT has the highest manual take of the segment (whatever segment that is), of around 50%. Sadly, I think most things a dealer says is so that they can move whatever they have in stock without ordering a new car.

That might explain why I see so many 4WD trucks at Ford and Chevy dealers, and hardly any 2WD trucks.

The dealership I work for sold more new Mustangs in calendar year 2008 than any dealer in the NW. I've been ordering our new Mustangs for several years now and it used to be true that Ford restricted which Mustang model and commodities (i.e. transmissions) we could order. However, the last year or two, Ford has actually let us order any combo we want (except Shelbys, which are still allocation-based). Our hot seller is traditionally GT Coupes with the manual trans and we rarely sell V6's. For example, on our lot today, we have just one V6 Mustang (manual trans), twelve GT coupes with manual trans, three GT coupes with manuals, and two GT verts with automatics.

How many of them have black interiors? I ask because practically every car I've seen in inventory of the dealers in my area has a black interior.

Most have black interior at my dealer too. One with red, one with gray. However, Ford bases their allotments off of customer surveys and past sales. ALSO, it depends on where you are in the country.
