2011 Mustang V6 Performance Package Boosts Handling, Braking
2011 FORD MUSTANG V-6 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE BOOSTS HANDLING, BRAKING; CAR NOW ROAD-COURSE READY
- All-new 2011 Mustang V-6 joins the ranks of performance-tuned Mustang offerings worldwide; available Performance Package combines lightweight 305-horsepower all-aluminum V-6, a 3:31 performance rear axle and Mustang GT-based suspension and braking components
- Unique 19-inch wheels and Pirelli performance tires provide superb grip and aggressive appearance
- Electronic stability control calibration features Sport mode for high-performance driving and track-oriented events
Powered by the same 305-horsepower all-aluminum Ti-VCT V-6 as the new 2011 Mustang, the Performance Package takes advantage of the new engine’s lightweight and high-revving nature to deliver a nimble performance car equally at home on a road course or a road trip.
“The new Performance Package delivers on fast, fun and affordable, combining the all-new 2011 V-6 with Mustang GT prowess,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief nameplate engineer. “It’s a true sports car for the new generation and a smart choice for the environmentally-conscious enthusiast. It is a perfect marriage of power, performance and value.”
Borrowing from the Mustang GT, the Performance Package includes numerous suspension, braking and body stiffening upgrades to deliver unparalleled handling performance. That road-holding is helped by a near-equal front/rear weight distribution, providing exceptional transient response along with the car’s slimmed-down curb weight of less than 3,500 pounds.
2011 Mustang Performance Package upgrades include:
- A 3.31 rear axle ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration
- Mustang GT coupe front and rear stabilizer bars
- Mustang GT front struts and rear shocks/springs
- Shelby GT500 rear lower control arm
- Unique 19-inch wheels
- Pirelli performance tires for improved grip
- Mustang GT front and rear brake calipers with Performance Friction pads
- A strut tower brace for increased body rigidity
- Unique electronic stability control calibration with Sport mode for performance driving
- Unique badging

Sweet - so essentially the 2011 v6 w/ this package will be almost on par with the stock 2010 GT. I can't wait to see what the 2011 GT will do.

It is lighter, but stock for stock, the 2010 GT will have more power and gear.
I agree though it'll surprise a LOT of people.

I think it will be easy to spot a fake, just like it's easy to spot every fake SN95 Cobra or 4th Gen V6 with SS badges,i just think if it's got unique badging and maybe a unique look,it'll be easy to spot while trolling AutoTrader.

I'd say gearing depends on the options. The 2011 V6 with 3.31 has "4.10s" compared to the 2010 GT. The gears in the new manual tranny in first are 4.27 etc compared to 3.38 for the GT. I think a 2011 V6 with 3.31s will beat a 2010 GT with 3.31s. I'm guessing all even or the GT by a car length if the GT has 3.73s. I'm guessing the gears are worth .3 in a quarter mile. Obviously a lot of guess work here.

Torques your buddy but the V6 should only average 15 less HP over the quarter mile compared to the GT.
A 370Z beat a Track Pack GT side by side by a car length or two. You can watch the video on Motor Trend. The 2011 V6 with 3.31s should be a little slower than the 370Z.

Then it looks like you're SOL, just like if you want a 2010 Mustang GT with the Track Pack and 18" wheels. The package comes with 19" wheels, if you want 18's, you either have to get them from the factory and do without the Performance/Track Package or buy them after the fact separately and put them on yourself. The good news is if you want to go that route, you could probably sell the 19" OPerformance Package wheels and tires for some decent money.

The 2011 Mustang has a much steeper 1st gear, true! But - and a big but, at that - 2nd through 5th gears are roughly the same as the 2010 Mustang, so the gearing advantage for acceleration is very short lived as it is only in 1st gear!

Did you check the math first? I was going to show all of the math but I'm lazy. The 2011 V6 with 3.31s has an 11% average advantage thru 4th gear versus a 2010 GT with 3.73s, a 25% average advantage versus a 2010 GT with 3.31s, and a 17 percent average advantage thru 4th gear versus a 2010 4.0L V6.

Let my clarify I'm talking about manual transmissions here. I thought that was understood because you cannot get 3.73s in an auto. I have 11% in first, 13% in second, 11% in third, and 10% in fourth versus a GT with 3.73s for example. I guess that's like having 4.10 versus 3.73s out back.
