2011 Mustang Specs - weight, power

It looks like the 2011 GT is 3600 lb curb, while the 2011 V6 is 3700 lb (Edmunds). Looking at the V6's torque and power, it seems the 2011 V6 would cost about as much as a 05-09 stripper GT and be a tad slower in stock form. The 2011 GT is going to be a monster though, it'd probably be a few feet behind a base C6 Corvette in the 1/4 mile.

Have they done any formal/official acceleration tests for the 2011 Mustang?

Edmunds is wrong, apparently they are basing their curb weight numbers on the early estimates from Ford, which Ford corrected for the GT but not the V6. The only other explanatin for the V6 weighing more than the GT is the 3600 curb weight for the GT is for a manual tranny coupe with no options and the V6 weight is for an auto convertible with lots of options.

The only thing concrete Ford has said about the weight on the V6 that I've seen, is that the performance package equipped V6 Mustangs will weigh less than 3500 lbs. Some of the car magazines (C&D for example) weigh the cars they test themselves instead of relying on published data, so wait until magazine reviews start to show up (or Ford revises the numbers) to learn the real curb weight numbers.

Logic tells me a V6 weighs less than a V8. Everything else is the same on the two cars except smaller brakes and tires on the V6. The V6 should weigh around 100 pounds less than the GT.

The car magazines have quoted Ford Engineers as saying the V6 will weigh in only 40 lbs. heavier than a 2010.

A Base 2010 V6 MT supposedly weighs in at 3401 lbs. (per a few publications), so ...

3441 lbs. would be a pretty good guess for a Base 2011 V6 MT

This falls in line with the "just under 3500 lbs." for the V6 with Performance Package since the 19" wheels (vs. std. 17"), added strut tower brace, and bigger GT Brakes should ADD a few pounds to the base car weight.

V6 weight

Don't forget that the v-6 has an ALL aluminum block. That will help with the weight and balance the car better than the old iron block v-6. The 2011 GT still has an iron block too until you get up into the high end ones...
I wonder what the weight distribution will be in the 2011 v-6

The 5.0 is aluminum... Even the old 4.6 was aluminum.

The only iron piece in the block for the 5.0 is a cylinder insert. The rest of the block is aluminum...

Yes you are right. I dont know what I was thinking on the v-8. I looked and the block and heads are all alum on All the 2011 engines. Still a good improvement for the v-6. Good stuff

to add to what YSUsteven said, also the GT's engine block hasnt been iron since the 2004 model year. its been aluminum since the 4.6 3V was introduced for the 2005. the explorer's 4.6 was an iron block...for some wierd reason.

thought there was no iron cylinder insert, isnt it a sprayed on liner?

No, that would be the 2011 GT500's new aluminum block 5.4L, not the 5.0L GT engine which uses sleeves.
