2011 Mustang Info Thread
I agree Ford was thinking about using a 3.5TT instead of the 5.0 at one time. I remember a FOMOCO questionaire asking if you would buy a 3.5TT engine over a V8. I would say based on the inputs, Ford will stick with a V8 for the foreseeable future. I agree the 3.5TT would beat the 5.0 on paper in almost any performance point. When you see a Lincoln MKS (4400 lbs!) hanging with a GT in the quarter you know that's one strong motor.
Now what do you guys think of the 3.5TT engine in the mustang. On another site, a poster who knows a lot about stuff Ford is planning says the 3.5TT is better than the new 5.0 in everyway so Ford can't use both engines in the mustang. I don't personally care for the ecoboost eninge and I have a hard time believing that Ford would produce 2 new engines and have the v6 outperfm their own v8. The poster who stated this though is very credible so I'm puzzeld. What do you guys think?
Ford isn't going to use it. The Coyote and 3.7 Cyclone are looking to be the engines for the '11. I do hope that they can pep up that 3.7L plant. Having driven an Edge equipped with one (lol) I can actually feel the potential there. Just needs some prodding from the engineers to get it up to speed with the LLT in the Camaro.
I remember a while back hearing the 3.5TT was NOT on the table at this time for various reasons...
As stated before, price is higher and too close the power of the coyote v8.
The other site is right in that the 3.5TT would probably lay waste to the coyote, but look at the stats.
Its a twin turbo 3.5 v6. 400+hp and torque with a curve Very FLAT.
Not really fair comparing a DI 3.5 twin turbo VS a Naturally Aspirated v8
Now... what about a DI 5.0L twin turbo V8?
That would DESTROY a piddly v6 tt....

Lousy suspension + more power, doesn't equal a better car, especially on the track. Rather, if you take a car that can't handle already, and stuff more power into it...you get a hideous accident on corner one. So I'm not sure the engine is the only critical point.

There is definately a short MY for 2010. The last 2010 will be built 3/10/2010. The first 2011 will be built 3/15/2010.
If I remember correctly, the short run was the 2009. The 2010 came out around March of last year, thus by the time it is replaced by the 2011 it will have had its year, thus not really a short year for it. I wonder if Ford will continue this way untill the final year of this body style. Running the last year the extra 6 months to put everthing back in line and giving them a bit longer to work out the new model. Just a thought.
