2011 Handling question?

Hello Everyone,

I have been reading this forum over the last several months and really appreciate the information on here. I am thinking of buying my first mustang and here is my question. I have debated on going with a 2011 v6 vs 2010 gt since there are some deals right now. I drove a 2010 gt 5spd the other day and felt like it was a bit loose in the handling. This car did not have the track pack. Does anyone know if the v6 2011 will handle better without adding the performance pack? And for that matter how about a 2011 gt as this may be an option if I go base 2011 gt. Thanks for any feedback on this. I did like the power in the 2010 gt but was not real happy with how the car seemed to have some sway to it.

I'm a complete newbie to Mustangs and have a '10 V6, but even with that HP I can tell a difference with the traction control turned completely off. Kinda surpised me...

Any other thoughts on this. Has anyone drove both the 2010 and 2011 and noticed a difference?

What one person "feels" is not the same as what another person "feels". I can feel a 2 psi change in my current car. Many others cannot feel a change that small.

Just go drive an 11 V6. Then make your own decision.

If all you din't like way the "sway", you can buy larger anti-sway bars from a variety of vendors. Lowering springs would also help.

The 2011 GT has the suspension of the former "track pack". The current (2011) track pack only offers brembos, and tires/wheels.

The standard 2011 3.7 V-6 has the same suspension and brakes as the standard 2010 GT. Other than not being as noise heavy they should have very similar handling.

The 2011 V6 Performance Package has the 2010 Track Pack or standard 2011 GT Suspension plus the bigger 2011 GT Brakes.
It also has 19" Wheels plus 245/40R19 Summer Rubber and Special Stability Control Calibration. It included the 3.31 Axle Ratio I believe. It has a Sport Mode in the Stability control as well. As yet no one has confirmed if the base V6 has Sport Model.

In my opinion you will want the Performance Package on the V6 based on your comments.

PS Despite the previous comment the Brembo Package 2011 GT has different springs compared to the base suspension. They are a different part number. How different I dont know.

Interesting, and believable, but also the first time I have seen anyone reporting this. I wonder if they are just a scosh stiffer to help keep the wider tires planted.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I will either opt for the v6 with performance package when it is available or go with the GT. Then again I live in Nebraska and if I want to drive in the winter I would guess a base model v6 with 17" wheels would be better for snow and pothole filled roads.

I find my 2011 GT Suspension very nice. While I sated it has the 2010 track Pack Suspension thats not quite correct. The front springs are a little softer and the front sway bar a little stiffer. Same overall wheel rate with a little softer ride. I believe they also changed the shock valving at least according to my butt dyno (which is not calbrated).

If you end up waiting on a Performance Package V6 then the 18's (17's wont fit the GT Brakes) used on the standard 2011 Mustang GT would make excellent wheels for winter tires. That way you could have real winter tires. They should be easy to pick up used still with the factory All-Seasons on them once guys start putting on aftermarket wheels with regularity. If not their is always newtakeoffs.com.

If you go with the base V6 think about ordering some Koni's from Sam Strano. He is a many time SCCA Champion and yet his street Mustang uses stock springs and bars but adjustable Koni Shocks. He found this made a big difference without much compromise in street manners.

Thanks for the information. I will have to check out newtakeoffs and the Koni's.
