2011 GT vs BMW? 370z? etc
2011 GT vs BMW? 370z? etc
Am I the only one who would like to see some reviews that put the car against something other than the big 3?
My buds at work are all import fanboyz and I'd love to see some tests smoking the **** out of them.

Maybe an update of this test?

Looks like the win went to the 370z before due to handling/steering and pretty much identical straight-line, would love to see them compare it to the 2011 5.0 w/ Brembo's.

The 2010 was a close race for the 370Z, 135i and 335i, probably a driver's race between them all. However, the '11 Stang is moving into M3 territory. I'd guess the M would tend to predominate, what with touch more (rated) power and a uber-quick 7 speed DCT to slice up those horses. 1/4 mile times do seem comparable (a bit under 13 seconds at a bit over 110mph), which is no real surprise given similar power and weights. I'd give it the edge in handling too, though the Stang is making huge strides here too. Of course, the Stang, even optioned to the gills, is around 20-grand less expensive, so it totally trounces it in bang for the buck.
BMW does have some new sport package to make a 335is which boosts its (very underrated) power to something like 335hp with an overboost feature too, and sharpens its handling even more, so that might be something to watch for. I don't recall if they've got something similar out for the 135i (yet?) but all that hardware, including their DCT, in a smaller, lighter 135is would really be something. Again, the Stang would still have a bang-for-the-buck advantage, but approaching $40K all tricked out, not such a gaping one.
As for the 370Z, unless they do something to put a lot more beans under the hood, it'll only be a challenge in the most demanding and tightest road courses where its great suspension can come into play. Of course, if some of that GT-R technology starts trickling down the pipeline...
A potential dark horse could be Hyundai finally sticking a hotted up version of their very nice 4.6 V8 into the Genesis Coupe. They say they won't and that the engine bay is too small (can we say shortsighted), but who knows, they are really getting more aggressive and confident and a V8 Genesis Coupe would REALLY put them on the enthusiast map in a way the 4 banger and V6 versions just haven't. That and perhaps farming out the suspension tuning to Lotus or something. Highly unlikely, but fun to consider.

For a 370Z competition they should put the V6 Track Pack Mustang up against it. It would still be faster in the 1/4 than the Z, but probably not as fast on a road course except for maybe being able to make up time on the straights.
i think the 2010 GT can compare to the 370Z (which i like). the 5.0 however...that will brutally assault the 370Z. i cant think of any other 400+hp cars that have the same specs as the GT besides the M3. hmm i wonder if anyone would ever run the new 5.0 on the nurburgring (however its spelled).
nope, you are definitely not the only one . . . the "Pony Car Comparos" are great fun, but the Mustang is becoming more of a sports car, so let's see it compared to other world-class sports cars
Road and Track ran a 0-60 in 4.1 and the 1/4 mile in 12.5 @114.8mph in a 6spd. manual M3 coupe.

Still pretty darn close for a car that is at least 25k more in price.
The M3's love 4.10 gearing...it would knock off .25 seconds off that time.

Even if the 2011 Gt won every perfromance stat, no mag would give it the win, the natural order of the world would be altered forever. I'm still fuming over MT's Gt500 vs SRT8 first matchup, Cobra won every performance test but Mopar won for feeling more composed. Slower cars generally feel smoother!!!

Braking and skidpad #'s are about the same as well. I've always considered the M3 as a gold standard for a sports car (minus exotics). A great performing car that is comfortable, luxurious and docile in traffic. The fact that the 2011 GT is even in the same league #'s wise is pretty special. I'm really anxious to see the #'s on the Shelby.
