2011 GT quarter miles runs.. Im a terrible driver : (

Let me preface and say this is my first time back at a track in 5 years and first time with this car. 6 speed manuel 3.31 gears-Perrelli P zero tires 245s. I know I suck and dont need to be ridiculed but sheesh I know I shift pretty **** good but the 60ft is killing me. Suffice to say Im buying drag radials ASAP. FYI was trapping higher than an 2005 Vette who was running 2.0 60 foot at a 13.06 105 qtr mile. I will be practing as well.

1st run
60 foot: 2.62 left at 2300 rpm spun badly
1/8 mile: 9.80 79.37 mph
qtr mile: 14.60 98.10 mph

2nd run run
60 foot: 2.44 left at 1800 rpm spun
1/8 mile: 9.33 78.86
qtr mile: 14.12 102.86

3rd run
60 foot: 2.58 left at 1600 rpm bogged of line
1/8 mile: 9.38 82.87 mph
qtr mile: 14.04 106.39 mph I think hit brakes 2 soon before qtr mile marker

4th run and last one
60 foot: 2.44 left at 1400 rpm
1/8 mile: 9.29 81.67 mph
qtr mile: 14.00 105.13 mph

you will get better.

We all start at the bottom, all that's needed is practice. 14.00 is pretty darn good.

all in all it about having fun..

looks to me by your 60's you were dropping the clutch, either bogging real bad or spinning right through?

if so.. next time slip the clutch.. like your on a steep hill, watch the 60's drop like a stone.

hope that helps

Yeah I bet it was super fun! And your times were goin down each run. How different is it drag racing the 5.0 vs other cars you've raced?

Yeah you can definitely improve your 60 fts even without drag radials. Slipping the clutch will help a ton. Did you heat up the tires with a little burn out at all?

You were steadily improving for sure. Don't feel bad about learning at all, EVERYONE has been there at some point. I think I would practice more with the stock tires, before moving up to drag radials though.

Thanks for sharing!

I dropped the clutch the first time and the rest bogged. I will work on the slipping of the clutch

Ironic thing there were 2 Z28s there- One was a modded 2002 LS1(lid,exhaust,gears,tune,tires) and its best was a 13.29 @ 105. Im not sure on the 60ft though-. Other was was stock and only hit 14.2s i think. It was hot, humid and Im not sure on the track prep.

The last one I dragged was an 2004 Cobra 450 to the wheels and it seemed easier from the start- Im pretty sure my 60 foot was around 2.0-2.1 and was running 12.50s at 115 on street tires. For some reason I need a little more effort with this one?

dang that '04 cobra sounds like a beast. Since you said it was a hot humid day, I'm interested to see what you could do on a good weather day. Once you get used to driving the 5.0 (more of a high revver) I'm sure you'll be ripping of mid 12's no problem with good weather

Anway I just wanted to share my first experience, Ive never been one to sugar coat my own racing times etc.. I will be going in 2 weeks and will post hopefully some better numbers. The 2004 Cobra was VERY fun I love that car but this car hands down is just a better ride, interior etc....

my burnouts with street tires.. i spin them until i start seeing a little smoke then let off the brake keep it at half throttle til they grab, which usually well bfore the start line... for launching.. go to an empty parking lot away from any streets and just practice til you ge tthe feel of the clutch where its going to grab etc.. as far as rpm.. its all up to the track conditions.. but on the street i've launched at 2.5-3k with little spin to no spin.. itsall practice.. just have fun and be safe andgood luck..
