So the top speed speeds will be governed at 149 for the GT (good enough, I guess) and 115 for the V6? I find that unacceptable. It's one thing to lop off a dozen or so MPH to save on the cost of more expensive tires but in the case of the V6, they must be chopping off 30 MPH. Very sad.

The rest of the news is nothing but good.

 

Most of us are going to get a tune for these cars anyway... speed limiter, gone.

 

Yes, because we all need to be going 115 mph on the street.
Isn't that just a simple tune away (to raise/rid the governor)? So, those that want to hit the limit should be able to get rid of it pretty easily.

It would not be intelligent to remove the speed limited unless you prepared the car for higher speeds. Ford sets these limits for a reason. V6 and GT will BOTH need higher rated tires, then you have aero and suspension stability to worry about.

 

Who cares about top speed anyways,a meaningless stat. The CS/GT is without a doubt the best looking of all the 2011 Mustangs. I like it in Grabber Blue.

 

Aero instability my butt. The old fox bodies were easy to drive over 120 and the aero was WAY worse on those. These cars are really easy to drive over 100. I can go 120 in my stock piece of crap 97 civic without a shudder.

I seriously doubt that the new V6 Mustang becomes aerodynamically unstable at speeds under 150 MPH. If you get the optional 18" tires (at least on the 2010) they are Z rated (149 MPH). It's just the 17" tires that are T rated (118 MPH), again for 2010. I don't know if the 2011 will have the exact same tires or not. For an extra $10 per tire, Ford could have chosen an H rated (130 MPH) 17" grand touring tire.

I'm not recommending that everyone should be driving their car at it's top speed every time you get out on the road. But to me, it seems like a shame that the 2011 V6 has 95 more horsepower than the 2010 yet has the same governed top speed.

 

On the 2010 base 1LS & 1LT Camaro, you get the 115 MPH Speed Limiter due to the "T" Speed Rated touring tires. 2LT & SS have perfomance tires ("W" or "Y" rated) so they have the 149 MPH Speed Limiter.
Order a 1LT with the optional 19" wheels/tires or the RS pkg. w/ 20" wheels/tires, the Speed Limiter is increased to 149 MPH.

I'd guess (hope) Ford will have the V6 speed limiter based on the tire option mounted at the factory too.

Either way, it will not matter to me as I don't think I've ever driven faster than 115 MPH on the street ... force an 85 MPH limiter on me and YES I'd definitely have a problem with that !!

No actual driving impressions which sucks. Much of the information is what we already knew, but hey its welcomed.

 

I don't care if I never take my car over 100-120mph. I don't want a **** computer governing my top speed. And with the power these new cars have, they will hit those limiters so quick, even on wide open roads like I-5 in CA and similar roads in Montana/Arizona/New Mexico, etc. My car easily hits the limiter and it bugs the crap out of me. The new V6 would be close to hitting the **** limiter at the drag strip!

115 trap speed is indicative of a mid 12 second quarter mile. The V6 won't be anywhere near that stock. Maybe 102 MPH.

So you're fine with a computer dictating your A/F mixture, ABS system, steering, throttle, traction, stability, but NOT the top speed?

I thought it was a pretty good article, no driving impressions which is too bad. Worth it for this line alone though:

Any way to order a GT/CS with stripe/spoiler delete? I love most of it except for those.
