2011 convertible 1000% stiffer ???
Hi Guys, The 2011 info states that the 2011 convertible is 1000% stiffer than the 2010 convertible. Is the info a mistake or did they really improve the car that much? If true it must be close to the coupe in stiffness. What do you guys think?

I wonder what the difference between the coupe and vert were.

The improvements come in underbody and cowl cross-bracing and structural foam injected into the door pillars. 1000%, pretty impressive.

If it is just foam and a few extra braces I wouldn't think it would add that much weight either. It will be interesting to see what kind of performance comparisons the convertibles get vs the GT.

It may not be a typo.
It may be an exaggeration.
Think of it this way:
1000% is 10 times stronger, right?
That would mean that something which previously withstood 1000lbs. of force can now handle 10,000 lbs.
The math doesn't add up IMO.
I'll believe maybe 100% or a little more.
Remember, the 2005 Vert was 100% stronger in torsional rigidity than the 2004.

It is possible that foam in the frame and some additional braces could stiffen it the claimed 10 times.
If they did use lots of foam, it might have quieted the interior also.

i dont think any of the v6 people would have to worry about much of a weight gain, after all the new 3.7L v6 probably saves a good deal of weight versus the outgoing 4.0L
just think of it, why give it 305hp with a dramatic weight increase. kinda defeats the purpose, this car is going to fly and make the stock 05-09gt owners a little nervous.

Wow, if this is true it may actually make me consider a convertable again. After having a 500+hp cobra vert and its flabby body I really got tired of the noise, the cowl shake, and especially the wheel hop.

It must have been a misprint. This should clear it up and make more sense.
Top safety marks expected
Mustang's technological advances are also incorporated in the structure of the vehicle to improve safety. The 2010 Mustang coupe earned the U.S. government's top five-star crash-test rating, a designation the 2011 model is expected to achieve.
The Mustang's considerable body stiffness contributes to the coupe and convertible's driving performance and has a parallel benefit in accident protection. While the coupe's body structure is approximately 31 percent stiffer than the previous Mustang platform, the convertible's is more than twice as stiff – creating a structure that helps protect the cabin from deformation and intrusion in an impact.
Mustang also uses high-strength steel in its body structure and ultra-high-strength steel in the door intrusion beams for additional side-impact protection."

Edit: the 31% stiffer number applies to the 2005 model year, as can be found here:
This makes sense, since the previous platform ended in the 2004 model year.

If it were a much smaller car like a Miata or S2000, yes...

That section also appears in their press release for the 2010 model, so it doesn't apply to what we're talking about here.

It figures that you'd be from Quebec. I'm not to pleased with that province right now and the junk they impose on the rest of Canada. A bunch of the NAV features on the 2010's that are available in the USA are not available in Canada because of bilingual garbage laws.
Apology please.

The platform has not changed since 2005.
So he is sort of correct because there really is NO change for 2011.
But it is applicable because nothing really changed.

It seems as the original 1000% was a typo.

The actual quote relates to the S197 vs the 2004 platform.![Dunno](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
