2010 vs 2011 trans

So I sat in a 2011 today with the 401a package(different shifter) and I noticed that the reach to 5th isn't as far in reach as in my 2010 also the gears felt way closer together ....anyone else notice this????

Ok, first, I want to file a restraining order on you on behalf of exclamation and question marks. Please stop abusing them; 12 of them doesn't get your point across any better than 1 of them.

Second, wtf is the point of this post? "I know it's a completely different, but the shifter is also somehow magically different in a way I cannot comprehend!" Is what I got out of your posts. Like, no ****.

Third, what do you mean by "Did they change anything on their 2010?" You mean, like, by buying a 2011? Wth would you change? Putting the MT82 on the 4.6? I suppose it's possible, but what's the point? You'd have to swap out the clutch and axle, and at that point it'd almost be easier just to swap in a whole 5.0.

What Jason and 06GT are alluding to is that your question is about as reasonable as me saying, Hey, 5th gear in my Civic is pretty far laterally, and I noticed it wasn't this way in the 2011 Mustang, what gives?

The tranny on the '11 has a closer (physical) gear track by design. Ford was trying to get this point across as most people like closer gates and tighter shift positions. The MT82 just helps by design.

Steeda and Barton are two leading shorter-throw shifter ("quick throw") suppliers for the 2011 and many folks on this forum have had good experiences with them. My guess is that these vendors and probably many others offer a nice short-throw shifter upgrade package for the 2010 as well. Google and "search" on this forum are your friends. Good luck!
