The glare from the sun is much more of a problem in our main family car, a Subaru Forester, than it is in the Mustang, where it is a non-issue.
thanks for the encouragment, but when you have clear glass directly over your head as opposed to sheet metal, how is daytime summer sun a non-issue? i'm not talking sun in their eyes, but beaming down on the neck/head of anyone sitting back there.

the thing is, trips in this car with little ones will be around town, so it's not a biggie...nice to hear that parents are driving these.

i'm totally a guy who is 41, drove around in RWD muscle with friends in high school because we all inherited one, and now want to re-live the feel (with more refinement) after all these years. pretty typical, i suppose...

really? $2800 under msrp is steep? it's got no options whatsoever. Destination charge is the option.

can they really shave more off than that? it would be great, since i'm trading one in...

thanks everybody for all the insight.

If this dealer is desperate to move this particular '10 V6, it's likely because they've already had it a long time and they've already burned up all of the "holdback" money used to offset the interest owed to the bank that's flooring this car.

So, the invoice total is this dealer's true cost on this particular car now, most likely. The only money this dealer will make on this transaction is what they make on the trade-in, the finance reserve (the difference in your interest rate vs what they got the loan for), dealer doc fees (if any), and optional items you buy (warranties, prepaid maintenance, insurance, accessories, etc.).
Thanks for the clarification !

Ford uses solar-tinted glass, so it's not going to cook the kids. Also, the a/c in the car is quite good at keeping temps way down. Stay away from the charcoal interior for further heat reduction inside.

cologne V6

lastly...is it safe to say that this engine is pretty durable? since i normally lease, actually owning/keeping a car for a long time is new to me, and i'd like to choose a drivetrain with a bit of proven reliability...

thx for all the opinions.

The 4.0L SOHC V6 is stout and has been in use for more than a decade. I have one in my 2003 Explorer. Good torque (more important than hp for acceleration), good reliability, and easy/cheap to maintain. It's a bit coarse sounding and the fuel economy isn't really any better than the 4.6L 3V V8 in the GT, but on a bright note is a bit cheaper to insure.

You would actually have to try to destroy one of the 4.0 motors. They are very reliable. My stepdad has one with over 140k on it that still runs good, and he's one of those cool people who uses regular oil and changes oil every 10,000-15,000 miles. I can't imagine if it was taken care of.

I used to have a v6 convertible and it was plenty of power for my tastes.

I live in northern Illinois, and have driven Mustangs as daily drivers every winter, with no problems. It handles snow up to 4 to 5 inches, but anything over that, you have clearance problems with the front end pushing it. Traction wise, I have had no problem. Use common sense during winter driving and it will handle okay for you.

having driven one, i feel they're being a bit harsh. this is a car that can be had for $19,000. for that money it is a cool option.

there have been some woefully lame incarnations of the mustang in my lifetime; the 2010 V6 is hardly among the worst.

thanks for sharing the article, i had not seen that one.

Actually I feel they are right on the money with the article. Do yourself a favor and wait for the 2011 V6 Stang.

I'm in the same boat Johnny Denver is in. I know it will be hard to wait for the 2011 V-6 Mustang's to come out. It's driving me crazy LOL!!! The Lincoln 3.7L engine is a good engine or Ford wouldn't have put in in a Lincoln. Even at 270 horsepower and in an AWD car weighing over or right at 1,000 pounds more than a Mustang, it still does 0 to 60 in around 7.3 seconds. So imagine if the horsepower is upped to around 300 for the Mustang. It will be a great day for the Mustang and Ford.

It'd be cheaper in the long run to wait, than to buy now, kick yourself repeatedly when the 2011 comes out, then eat the big depreciation as you trade in for the new model with the better engine. Invest in some valium til then, take a deep breath and mellow out. Waiting will be worth it!

i totally get it, and i'm sure the 2011 will have better resale as well as performance, but i am actually interested in longevity and frugality more than anything, which is why i am drawn to the supposedly durable cologne V6 and the screamin' deal (i hope) i can barter on one as the season rolls on, using the coming year's upgraded power plant as a bargaining tool.

i'm looking for a drastically-reduced-in-price stripper, folks. RWD feel is in general more important to me than horsepower. but i' sure welcome the extra horses should i end up waiting.

now the only exception would be if i can find a dealer who is affiliated with a bank who will lease me one, i'd already have it. i always lease, and always switch vehicles every 2-3 years. a few sources list mustang base coupe residuals at a decent 3 and 4 year rate, but apparently few banks agree...knowing that i can only purchase a mustang outright is the main reason i'm dragging my feet and researching my way to comfort (which never really occurs, as you all know).

sorry i'm dragging this on & on...

Even with your reasoning you should still get a 2011 which will be out in just a few more months. Believe me you will still get a smoking deal on a 2011 V6 Stang. The car will have almost 100hp more and get better gas mileage.

From someone who came out of a E9X BMW IMHO you are going to be woefully disappointed.

True, but there's a reason for that...
