are 2010+ TPMS sensors compatible with 2009- wheels?
I am looking at a set of used black bullitt wheels off a 2008? Shelby GT to go on my 2010 GT . . . I want to transfer the TPMS sensors from my 2010 wheels to the used wheels.
I thought this would be pretty simple, since the 2010+ uses the stem-mounted sensor, so I thought there would be no issues; I figured the sensors mount on the stems and the wheel really doesn't matter. But my local tire shop is telling me to beware, the sensors are not "compatible" with all wheels. However he does not know the specifics on these exact sensors and wheels.
Does anyone know the scoop on this? I'm hoping I can find out without having to peel the tires off the wheels and look.
thanks in advance

The only reason the sensors might not work is if the wheel shape interferes with getting them in the valve stem hole.
Only thing to do is get a 2010+ sensor and try it in the wheel.
And there are aftermarket sensor that allow you to adjust the angle of the sensor on the valve stem that might make it so they will fit.

no they run on different signal codes. I've tried this before. I work at discount tire. EDIT: sorry I just read your post. No yeah some sensors won't fit, but yours are the rubber valve ones which almost fit anywhere. it just depends on how far down and in the way the sensor is.

they look like this. Those bullitt wheels will work easily. Just do it and make sure they sell rebuild kits for those sensors. At work we know them as EZ(even though they're not), shrader, or chevy sensors (chevy has had those in since like 2007). are they deep dish wheels? I can tell you now if you send a picture of the face and back of the wheel. If they're deep dish, maybe you'll have a bit of trouble depending on the location of the valve(s). If they straight up have a valve right on the face but not sunken in then they should fit. but for the most part you're right. The rubber mount ones fit almost anywhere. I'd just try it to be honest.

YES they will work, had a set on mine, you'll have to by new '10+ valve stems for the 08's, then transfer the sensors over, and no need to re-program either

Awesome, thanks for the help everyone, that is what I was hoping to hear!
The wheels I am talking about are the Ford 18x8.5" bullitt wheels that were used on the Shelby GT's, Bullitt, and maybe some others in the 07-09 timeframe.
great tip about the 10+ valve stems, that should help me avoid a lot of hassle, confusion, and cost figuring that out.
that's what this board is all about!
