2010-2014 Ford Mustang S-197 Gen II Lets see your latest Pics PHOTO GALLERY
The S550 has really grown on me. Not only does it look completely different from any other Mustang, but it looks slightly better IMO. Now every time I look at my '13, I see a big, fat, tall, square-looking car. ESPECIALLY with the thick lower side skirts that are body colored.
It's amazing how the shape of a car can give the illusion of being tall and fat. When in reality the S550 is fatter by 5 inches, is actually taller than any lowered s197 car out there, and is heavier. So I'll stick to my opinion that the S550 is fat, tall and appears pregnant to me.
I was unable to find drag coefficient numbers for the standard GT's but did manage to find them for the Gt350R and the outgoing Gt500. Both have a drag coefficient of .34. That said the new mustang isn't any slipperier than the old S197. I have read claims that ford says it is but drag coefficient is drag coefficient. Numbers don't lie.

beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
If you like retro, the S197 is IT !
PURE MUSCLE !
The S550 is NOT a refinement, but a completely new design that takes styling cues from it's heritage.
This one is NOT retro.
The S550 will appeal more to a new generation than the S197 ever could.

When the S197 debuted it sold over 150K units its' first year. The 2015 was only at about 87K units through August of last year. That said it probably didn't best the S197 sales volume during its model year debut. The S550 will have a long way to go in order to beat those sales numbers. So far I think the public has spoken. And if you look at the sales data. Mustang sales went from from 88K in units in 2013 to 134K units in 2014. This was due to the luke warm reception the public has given the S550 and people like me saw the reveal, and went and ordered a 2014. Any other time in recent history when Ford redesigned the Mustang the units for the outgoing model year went down as folks waited for the new model to arrive. Not this time. The exact opposite happened.
I'm not saying the S550 sucks. I am just saying it, IMO, will not achieve the level of sales the S197 saw. S550 has some cool models out now and coming out soon. If you put lipstick on a pig and pretty it up, it's still a pig. The Camaro had been giving the Mustang a run in sales and even beat the Mustang a few years with the exception of 2014 where the Mustang saw a huge surge in sales volume.

I like what GM did to the Camaro with this redesign. They still kept the same overall shape to the car, because people liked it. They just gave people more of what they wanted. More power. Ford could have done a redesign and kept more of the traditional styling cues and upped the power. What we got was fatter, heavier, and slower. Is this what you want????

That might have some element of truth to it, but I suspect that incentives on the S197 likely played a much bigger part in the surge. When I got mine in May '14, Ford was offering up to $3000, and returning Ford customers got an additional $750. Combined with an additional dealer discount of $3500 (as in my case), the numbers worked really well for me. People speak with their wallets.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 2013 GT, but there are times I look at it and think how it looks so awkward at some angles.

If we're talking about appearance, then LOOKS are all that matters. The S197 LOOKS like a tall, fat car...especially the 13-14 variants with the body colored side skirts. The roofline is tall compared to most other sports cars out there. I park it next to my buddies' cars at Cars and Coffee and mine is always, by far, the tallest physically or tallest looking. Unless it's parked next to a Charger or 300C or something lol. On Saturday I met up with some friends, one of which has a '15 Guard GT Track Pack. His car is unmodified and looks lower than mine. I even have the SR Racing springs, 1.5" drop. Don't get me wrong, I love my 2013 GT, but there are times I look at it and think how it looks so awkward at some angles.
I'm saying something may physically be smaller but LOOK bigger. That's all that matters when you're talking about appearance. Human perception, not physical numbers
