This photo was taken at our most recent meet in the UK. Now, I just love the original S197, it's a absolute classic and I want to keep mine until I can pass it on to my children. But the 2010 manages to make it look, I dunno, almost a little staid?

I agree 100%. To bad they were not even as the '10 make the '08 look huge but im sure its because the '10 is behind. I just think the hips just make this car a different beast. I do not like the straight across look anymore on the 05-09. I really like the white with GB stripes.

Nice photo. It's actually rather hard to find good comparison shots between the two styles. Though it would be better if they were the same distance away and at the same or exactly mirrored angles. I did some searching for comparable pictures but far too many are media shots using strange angles or perspectives that make them bad for comparison. Just finding a straight on picture from the front of a 2010 with it's lights off is surprisingly hard to do. I guess everyone thinks the 2010 front ends should only be photographed with lights on.

The '05-'09 were purposely made with a larger front end than modern aerodynamics would dictate.
That throwback look that truly hearkens to the old muscle cars is something that drew me in.
That being said the next incarnation had to be more aero and sleeker to show progression.
I think each is as it should be.
I am glad I have a 1st gen S197 and will keep it for as long as possible.
I will probably get a new one soon too. (Within the next couple of years).
The new one will be a daily driver, not a preservation project though.

Both are nice - I'd be happy to own either. I still favor the 05 - 09 due to the back end, but the interior, the front end and the "hips" on the '10 - '11 are sexy. That being said, I'll keep my ,07 GT for a long, long time. Instant classic in my humble opinion.

I dunno, on the highway, I find it takes a second or third look before I realize what drove past me was a 2010 and not a 05-09. They look so similar in the real world that sometimes I think Ford wasted their time on a "redesign". That photo you have up there does seem to accentuate the changes though.
As far as the differences though and which one looks better... I can't make up my mind. They both look fantastic. I think I'm one of the very few(or I might be the only) who actually prefers the 05-09 interior to the modern 2010-11. Don't know why, can't explain it... but just not a real fan of the new interior compared to my 2008. The whole argument of "cheap materials" never held much ground with me as I don't WANT lush interiors in my muscle car, and I'm not touching everything on the dash. All it needed to do was look nice, and I think it succeeded.
The exterior of the 2010 looks downright gorgeous, and even the backend has grown on me. I don't think the 2005-9 models look worse or better, but rather... more muscular. Using the photo above as a reference, the 2010 looks more "sports car"-esque. The 2010 looks like it should be able to shred through turns with ease, while the 08 looks like it should be able to rival the Batmobile in terms of ruggedness.
In the end... I want both.

The nice thing about both designs is that there are a multitude of aftermarket parts, so you can take a beautiful design and customize it and make it your own.
