Hey gang...since these wheels are painted and clear coated, has anyone decided to use a paint polisher on thier 19s?

In years past, you never wanted to use any kind of wax or polisher on wheels..is this still a true statement?

Why wouldn't you have used wax on wheels in years past?

I think my Taurus wheels are painted and I haven't put anything on them (got it last December). A cloth just glides over them like paint with a fresh coat of wax.

 

Yeah, always coat painted wheels with car wax. And put a real heavy coat on the inside to help keep road crud and brake dust from sticking as bad.

I have always waxed my wheels. And, once a year in the Spring, I pull the wheels, clean and wax the inside of the rim. I live in a nasty winter place , so this may not be necessary for those living in the sun belt.

 

Just use the same wax you wax the car body with, it'll work just fine.

 

slightly on the same topic. Do any of you guys use a cleaner or prewash spray when washing your rims?

 

I use Meguiar's Hot Shot All wheel cleaner to loosen up the dirt and brake dust...but I don't allow the wheel cleaner to sit for an extended amount of time...usually no more than 30 seconds. Then, using a soft sponge and my hose nozzle on a light mist, I immediately start to wash and rinse at the same time. Once I'm done with this process, I give each wheel a very thorough rinse.

 

I threw Zaino polish on my wheels when I did the rest of the car. Looks great. E-Z to clean.

 

I put a paint sealant on them and then use aquawax on them after every wash
