12 GT MT82, considering swapping out for a TR6060 Trans?
I have about 3800 miles on my 2012 Mustang GT and I LOVE THE CAR.
The car is absalutely perfect and the best I've owned to date!
At about 3,000 miles I notice my trans start to whine. It sounds good...kinda like a supercharger whine...
I feel like my trans will die on me soon and I definetly don't want to put in the same type of trans.
What are my options? I won't even bother going to the Ford dealer about it because there pretty much nothing they can do for me because there is no fix and they don't give a crap anyway.
I have LT headers, catted x, catbacks, CAI and tune. I know they'll blame it on the mods.
Tr6060 for 3k plus $500 install.
Your thoughts? Is the tr6060 a good transmision? What would you put in?
Thanks everyone.

Why is it that you think the whine means the tranny is going to go belly up?
The TR6060 will fit right in but is heavier and has different ratios.
Ford will come up with a solution if the MT82 problems persist, they have to, it's in their best interest.

The TR6060 isn't without its share of problems and quirks, too, at least in the Camaro.

If my MT82 develops problems under warranty, I will try to have Ford fix it. If Ford does not/cannot/will not repair it, I will lemon law it.
If it fails outside of warranty, by then I will hopefully have some money saved up and can use it for a T56 Magnum swap if necessary.
Of course, I hope mine will be problem-free and stay that way. I have seen videos of whining MT82s on YouTube, and honestly it does sound kinda cool. As long as it's not a sign that the tranny is eating itself, I could totally live with the whine.

The TR6060 is a great trans. Both GM and Dodge have used it on their top cars as well as Ford on the GT500, but it is a completely different animal. It is awesome that it has triple synchros in 1st and 2nd and double synchros in every other gear. As mentioned earlier with different ratios you will have a double overdrive rather than single. 4th gear would be your 1:1 gear instead of 5th currently on your car. Personal preference but if your problem is the trans. I would make Ford fix it.

It's been over a year and they haven't come out with a fix. I wouldn't be able to make $600 payments on a car thats new and disabled

Although I can't say that my tranny has been perfect. It's notchy and started whining today, I have a theory that the transmission itself for the most part isn't the problem. I have an open case with Ford on an engine knock and now with the transmission whining I'm wondering if they are somehow connected.
What I'm going to try to do is get a new clutch in the car. Something streetable but with good holding power. My hunch is that some of the symptoms I'm having with my car may be cured by doing this.
I know there's a ton of people having issues with their transmissions, but of all those stating this, I've only seen a hand full that have actually lunched the transmission. A faulty clutch/pressure plate assembly could certainly be a culprit here.

Isn't the whine how it all starts? I just want to be ready.

Just that you seem ready to give up on the tranny and Ford and spend a bunch of $$$ to change to another tranny type when you don't know for sure that your tranny is going to fail.

Ok, I see. I'm not ready to replace it yet. If it fails and there's still no fix for it then yeah, I guess I'll have to swap it. Just weighing my options. It sucks, it's a lot of money but my Mustang is a daily driver and I won't be able to get around without it.

LOL I wish the whine was just the sound of the trans. I would love it! It sounds awesome! Hopefully it is!

From one fellow SW owner to another...
Have faith in the trans man. My car gets driven pretty hard and my tranny is whined since 800 miles. 9200 miles later (an a few clutches) the tranny is still great.
The whining is just a characteristic of the tranny in my opinion and has no relation to durability
