IMO, the '10 Mustangs are gonna be the hot rod material for the current body style. I imagine resale value will be more in line with the older S-197 cars due to not having the 5.0 but they get the upgraded interior and other amenities that the 05-09 cars lack.

The times dictated the priorities. Regardless of what one thought of the styling or performance, enough people saw value in them, based on the sales numbers.
I would also question the quality, in general, of many cars made during that time, given all the hoops that manufacturers had to jump through to meet fuel economy regulations.

Also, cars were in the shop all the time, and often stalled. This was true not just of American cars (like the 1977 Dodge Aspen my parents had before the Scout), but also of some foreign cars. Our 1969 Volvo left us stranded many a time.
Those who didn't live through those times probably take it for granted how good cars are today.

Going thru this past weekend's heat wave with temps in the 100-106 range reminded me just how much cars have improved. I'm old enough to remember that these kind of temps would have seen a parade of cars on the side of the road with their hoods up smoking like BBQ pits. Anyone out there remember "vapor lock" on our beloved Ford models?
