Is the '10 Mustang going to be Mustnag II of the modern era?

Is the '10 Mustang going to be Mustnag II of the modern era?
With it being the first year of a new body style and the last year of the 4.6 in the same vehicle and for only one year will this car be considered a bastard like the Mustang II?

Quite the opposite, I predict that the 4.6 will gain cult-like status in the future, leaving the 2010 the last car to bear its fabled powertrain. Maybe in 20years Ford make a big fuss about bringing back the 4.6.

i think 50 yrs down the road the 10s will be the rare collector car that had the old engine with the new body style. there will be 3 years of 5.0s before the redesign and there were 5 years of 4.6s in the old styling. but only one bridge year. think of how many are going to be crushed as trade ins during in cash for clunkers 2025.

The Mustang II was often dogged on its styling, its size reduction, and its engine output. It was the right car for the times though.
Even if if the 2010 was considered a "dog", that dog is the basis for the 2011 and the continued production of the model. Furthermore, I would also say that if there was no Mustang II, we might not have been looking at a Fox Mustang in 1979 and thus, no 2011.
Therefore, celebrate the 2010 because it is an excellent car in its own right, despite the major improvements in the powertrain for 2011.
And powertrain modifications, whether for the Mustang II or the 2010, make a WORLD of difference!

Hardly Mustang II level ignominy, perhaps a bit more like the original 260 Stang before the 289 came out or the last original 5.0 Stangs in 94-95. The '10 is still a very fine car with a great motor and drivetrain even if not quite at the new '11 level of epicness.
My guess is that, barring the pressure from the Camaro and Challenger, Ford would have waited until '11 (or '12) to bring out the whole package, new bodywork, interior and mechanical bits, at the same time. But the competition forced them off their previously lackadaisical upgrade and development pace into bringing new stuff out much faster. Ahhhh, the power of competition...

I won't be around but 40 years from now it sure will be interesting to see what the "market" considers rare and worth collecting.
The Mustang II gets a bad rap, probably deserved but if there was not a II, whose to say what the next Mustang when/if Ford decided to restart it would have been. It kept the bloodline going.

I would say no. Whole different situation now as apposed to 1974 when the cafe regs were killing horsepower.
The mustang shrunk in size and horsepower. The 10's only improved in many ways. Ironicly cafe regs have led to more horsepower as engineers have found ways to reduce friction...roller rockers etc. I will always remember the 10 for its track pac option.

if the 2010 was saving the mustang name like the 2 did I'd say yes but it's not. The II kept the mustang alive when it was **** near dead. Gets hardly any credit for that.
