10’ GT 4.6L Auto - Questions

Hello from the 05-09 Section, I have a few questions for those who are familiar or know to have a 2010:
- Does the 10’ have Select-Shift
- I know the 10’ shares the same engine with the 05-09 but if it has Select-Shift then would it work with the 05 or is the transmission the same and will just need a new pcm, harness etc.
- Is EVERYTHING Powertrain wise is the exact same or did they just change the body style

I'm pretty sure the '10 did not have SelectShift. I think that started in 2013.

The 2010 Mustangs (GT & V6) had the new body but had the old motors and transmissions because the new 5.0 wasn't ready yet.

Are you planning a swap?

You will need a 6R80 transmission for select-shift and the 2010 has a 5R55.

Alright thanks just wanted to check to see if I could make the option happen and yes I have a 4.6L that I got that has only a few thousand miles on it from an 07 That Ford covered under warranty and had replaced the one in the car it was in but a timing guide broke and chewed through the valve cover, just the guide broke through, not the chain, the chain still has tension and is in good condition but it was outside of warranty just by a few hundred miles so they didn’t cover it, the guy who had it in his motor took it out and bought another motor and let this one sat so I picked up cheap complete, plan on putting it in my 05, and on the side note I drove from La Puenta to Paramount with the engine in my truck, check my build thread

The 3V 4.6 is a great engine except for the spark plug removal.

I’ve actually already removed the spark plugs, some took a bit of force and felt as if they had loctite but came out in one piece

IIRC, the 2010 4.6L carried over some of the improvements from the Bullitt's 4.6L. I think it's primarily tuning and maybe a different intake. You might want to compare the part numbers for the '07 vs 2010 components. I don't think they changed anything major like the cams, but you'll probably have to account for the differences either by putting on the 2010 components or maybe using a custom tune. That's if you get a 2010 PCM. I didnt see anywhere on this thread or your build one if you actually bought one yet.

As far as the spark plugs go, the head design and spark plugs were updated mid '07. Out of curiosity, which one below did the spark plugs look like?

Yes do be careful about that . . . those are the major changes that I know of, but they also increased the red line and I am not sure how they did that. The 2010 also had the adaptive spark timing so that implies some other changes with the computer system.

The spark plug looks like the top design and yep, I got a few grins and laughs myself when even I witnessed putting the engine in my trunk, people didn’t believe me until I provided pics, Only was fair and if I do go the 10’ route, would the stock harness and computer match up with the rest of the wiring and controls on the 05? My friend was telling me I should’ve went 5.0 but one, too expensive, two, it takes a lot to get it to work with the 05 such as room and interchangeability, and third, going with a 4.6, it’s not that bad of a motor and it’s as simple as a 8.8 rear end, trans, wiring, driveshaft, computers, and possibly a stiffer or stock GT suspension as I am not sure as spring stiffness changed from v6 to v8
