10-11 GT MPG poll
Hey, with gas prices going up, I thought it might be interesting to see what people are getting for MPG and any tips for how they are doing it.
The Poll is for overall average MPG on GT's, 2010 or 2011, manual or automatic . . . yeah it probably should be broken down more but that would be several polls not one and we probably wouldn't get enough responses to make any of them interesting.
Also please post additional info on your experience -- what car, gears, transmission; type of driving; tips; etc.
Let's see what we get . . . .
**************************************************
My car: 2010 GT 3.31 gears, 5MT, 100% stock except Roush CAI (that CAI does not require a tune so I doubt it does much)
I've tracked my gas since I got the car (used) in May '10; total of 34 fill-ups and 9333 miles in that time. My GT is my daily driver. Some of the key conclusions:
Overall average MPG: 23.7 (mix of highway and around town, I would guesstimate roughly 50/50 highway/backroads, not a lot of stop & go)
Best MPG on a fill-up: 26 (mostly commuting, highway and back-roads cruising)
Worst MPG on a fill-up: 18.7 (around town)
Best MPG on the computer in realistic situation: 31.0 (for a full commute to work, from my driveway to the parking lot, including about 60% highway at 70 MPH and 40% off-highway at about 40-50 MPH, 10 stopsigns/stoplights)
The trip computer usually reads 0.2 MPG higher than calculated based on a tankfull; sometimes it is low and sometimes it is higher than that; overall average the trip computer is 0.3 MPG lower than calculated (I haven't quite figured out how that can be yet). In general I'd say the computer is pretty close, within a few tenths of the measured/calculated MPG.
I generally drive pretty conservatively though I do have some fun here and there when I see an opportunity such as highway on-ramps. For normal cruising I up-shift around 2000-2500 RPM. I coast in neutral whenever I see the opportunity -- on downhills, when approaching a stop sign, etc. On the highway I cruise at about 70 MPH which is right around 2000 RPM in 5th with my 3.31 gears. I generally try to avoid hitting the brakes whenever possible/safe (this drives my wife nuts, she thinks I should over-react and slam on the brakes whenever there is a brake-light or slow down visible ahead, even if it is 1/2 mile ahead with open space on an up-hill)

I'm currently averaging 19.1 mpg in 90/10 city highway driving. I'm sure it would go up to about 24-25 if that was swapped.
My car currently has about 1070 miles on it so it's still wearing in. I expect that average to raise slightly with time.

2011 GT Manual w/ 3.55 gears
mostly city driving
14.15 -> 14.28 -> 14.61
It is slowly improving. However, I got my car when temperatures fell below -10 degrees Celsius. Plus, I still don't have 1000 km on it. I hope it will improve once I get to drive it more and in warmer weather.

I am really disappointed about the mileage on my car. I get 12mpg and i baby it. In town or on the freeway. I coast to stop lights and shift at 2,000. I do not go by what the car says cause it is wrong. I mean my tractor trailer gets gets 7mpg with 80,000lbs. The sticker is totally wrong. I don't get it. The car runs great but the mileage sucks. I have 1,553 miles on it. I can watch the needle move driving to work.

Hmm... My attempt to follow the "guideline"
My car: 2010 GT 3.31 gears, 5MT, SCT 91 Tune, gutted cats + muffler delete, KN Drop-in Filter
Overall average MPG: ~20
Best MPG on a fill-up: 23.2 driving about 500 miles (Sacramento, CA to Irvine, CA)
Worst MPG on a fill-up: 9 (Track day.... ha.)
Calculated at the pump.... I have a base GT, so no computer read outs.

I have an 11 GT with 3.73's and a 6 speed manual with less than 3000 miles on the clock. From Detroit to Memphis I averaged 23 mpg's. Driving in the city over the last two fill ups my average is 13 mpg's. Mind you having fun going through the gears. Today when I filled up and drove around for a while I started playing with how I drive... 1st to 4th ect.. basicly just keeping the rpm's at or below 2grand. Now I'm right around 19 mpg's in the city. I expect those numbers to go up as the car breaks in.

2011 GT, Auto here...
1st fill-up I ave 23.1 MPG.
I drive all hwy & town's. I have been getting 18-20 MPG when I average it up. I recently drove to DFW, got 23 then. I am tickled pink with my #'s!! Got about 13-15 in my 95 GT.

Right around 20 mpg average. I do about 70% highway driving and don't really drive for mileage. But I don't hammer it all the time either. Speed limit is 70 mph, but mostly go around 78. My particulars are in my sig.
Less than 2k miles on the car.

Well being my car doesn't even have a 100 miles on it yet. I can tell you that they filled it up at the dealer when I bought it and I have used a half tank already.....So I would say not good.

^ You may average lower mileage than mine just because you're pulling the hills of Pittsburgh. (I grew up in Monroeville!) I'm now out in Dayton, OH, which is pretty much all flat.
Also- What octane gas is everyone using? I'm sure the dealer filled mine with 87. I filled it with 89 for the first tank so I'll see if that makes any noticeable difference, too... 93 might make more of a difference, I may try that for the next tank full. Probably hard to say, though, since it's still breaking in and I'm still getting used to the car.
