So, I wonder if some "independant group" like the folks on this page, could do an MPG comparison between the cars with and without this skip-shift "feature".

I had been in software production for sales in the 90's and the marketing guys would always tell me..."it is not a new bug, it is an undiscovered feature."

My 2012 GT doesn't have the skip-shift feature. Over 3,000 miles and it has never stopped tried to stop me from going to a gear.

Read up on how it works. You really have to be in the granny driving mode. It is there but the exact parameters of how it works are very limited. If you see it lit in the display, you have passed the window it works in. Around 1800 rpm, no aggressive acceleration at all, gentle shifting.....that is just a short bit on it.

One manual would not have it if they put them on during that year. The '11/'12 models do have the skip shift feature and it works unless it is unplugged or disabled thru a tune.

2011. My 07 never ever hinted at a refuesal of a shift.

Yes it does, it only activates at a certain FPS acceleration. My Boss has it so I know for sure your GT has it.

This. I mostly drive like this (after getting let go on a warning) and it comes on all the time. Especially in stop 'n go NYC traffic.

You can avoid the shift lockout (there is a physical block at least in my example) by quickly pushing lever to the right and back down to 2nd.

The mileage DOES get better if you stick to it religiously (which is really really hard ) and 1-4 really enough for a lot situations i encounter daily - however nothing sucks more than getting it during a fresh green light from an intersection

I think what is happening when you do the sideways push is the solenoid has timed out of locking you out of 2nd by the time you do that. Try actually just pausing in neutral fir a second, then hit 2nd gear.

Some of the drama in this thread is hilarious/ridiculous.. If you pull away very slowly from a stop, you'll see the suggestion in the message center for 1-4, and if you continue accelerating that slowly, the shift to second will slide to fourth instead. If you pull away from a stop like you're driving a muscle car, you will never see this. I have seen it a half dozen times in the year I've had my car. If you do see it, just slightly goose the gas pedal before shifting, and into second you go. I don't get how people think this is an issue. It's a fuel economy feature that is easily worked around by driving style.

this is getting me confused. so if the car "thinks" that you are going really gently and slowly, it will activate the skip shift?

I originally thought it would only activate if you are shifting from 1st to 2nd above 4000 RPM...

All I know is my car BARELY moves if I'm already gently driving in first and shift at 1700-2000 into 4th. It bogs down and if i needed to get on the gas I'd be a fish out of water....

That right there......skip shift puts you into an almost lugging driving situation. I was in a slow turn held up by other traffic and shifted to be ready to accelerate.....bogged down bad. That first time it did it to me, I thought I needed practice with the clutch and shifter....second time....not me, what the heck. Found out what it was and unplugged it.

Driving around it also takes more fuel and time on top of the normal driving if you are revving between shifts.

Hmmmm....maybe this is the cause of tranny issues......just kiddin'.

I guess I drive like a Granny .. I see that message all the time ... however, I did disconnect the solenoid when I got it home from the dealership.

I think some of us having the impression that this feature blocks a gear at high rpm, no it only suggests u shift 1-4 for fuel economy, it's just a friendly warning if u ignore it it goes away and doesn't stop u from shifting into 2nd whatsoever.

Even if u disconnect that line u may still see it on info center if it meets these criteria:

Skip shift enablement criteria:

Warm engine (greater than 170 degrees F coolant)
Start from a dead stop (approx 1 to 2 secs to stabilize idle)
Vehicle speed between 15 and 19 mph
Throttle pedal less than 25% open (but not closed pedal)
Engine speed greater than 1200 rpm
1st gear validated

Having to wait 6 months for my 5.0 I researched all this stuff became a user manual guru lol

This thread is hilarious! To the previous posters that asked or wondered aloud, the 2005-2010s with the 5 speed manuals do NOT have the skip shift. The 2011 and up 6 speed manuals DO have it. Not sure when the Shelbys started using it or if they have always used it since 2007. If you haven't experienced it yet then you haven't met the parameters mentioned above.

Been around on GM cars for years, beginning I believe with the Corvette.
I still have not had this activate in 21000+ miles. I am not sure what the parameters are for engagement, and I assume I just have not hit them.

Saturday afternoon

Disconnecting the Skip Shift was easy. The most difficult part was jacking up the car. I used a heavy duty scissor jack.

Just as indicated in the photos, the connector is right on top of the transmission fill plug. It's almost at the top of the transmission. I did it by feel, not by sight. Just pull on the connector hard enough, and it comes right off.

The entire project took about 40 minutes. Time well spent!
