I'm happy. The ship (I'm in the Navy) was selling tickets today for the Richmond race next month, really good seats. I'm glad NASCAR loves the military. Very excited, never been to a NASCAR race in person. Now, just gotta find a hotel room.

You will love that track. I have been to Datona and it was just too big. Most of the track you couldn't see, so they had these big Tv in the infield. Not the same if you know what I mean. Most of my family are in Virginia and my sister lives in Richmond. There is not too many hotels there but there is a Comfort Inn we stayed in once. The rooms were clean and and price was ok. When we went we were at the track the whole day. We watched pratice runs and warm ups. That was cool. This year my daughter is getting married that day so I will be in PA. But you will love the race. If you have never been to a race this is one of the best tracks to go to. Enjoy! God Bless You Guys.

I have a co-worker that has lived in the area for awhile and he usually has season tickets and he says it's great because you can see the whole track. I'm going to search for a hotel in the area even though they are probably booked up.

Check in the smaller towns around Richmond. Kilmonic or Rappahanock if all booked up.

LOL, I had to get a place in Williamsburg, 40 miles away. Either the hotels were booked or charging 150.00 per night. Good thing I'm use to commuting 35 miles one way to work each day. I've also been brainwashed by the Navy so I get up really early so I can beat the traffic to the track each day. It's getting out of there that will be the problem. Unless I want to do the shuttle from the convention center downtown.......I don't really want to park my car down there.

My first race was in Charlotte in 1996 (I was 22). Me and my friend went down from Chicago with great seats, but no place to stay. We were going to sleep in my Explorer in a parking garage (or something) the night before the race and drive back home after (Memorial Day Race). Well the night before (at least back then) there was a BIG party in the streets of Charlotte. Needless to say we drank, and drank, and drank. We watched the Doobie Brothers, drank some more, and we found ourselves inside the Hilton at ~1:00am. We asked if they had any rooms, they said yes, but for a large sum of money for the room. Which we gladly paid in our drunken state.

Well we had a great time, drank a lot, spent too much money, the race was fantastic (although it rained a little and we ended up leaving before the end of the race, they restarted while we were on the road back to Chicago.)

I used to go to the Michigan Race, and come home the same day while I lived in Chicago. It is a ~4 hour drive, and I always had a great time.

I guess my point is don't worry about sleeping as long as you make it to and from the race.

I agree. I was thinking about going to the Busch race but I just remembered that I'll be getting up at 3am to get ready for work so by the time I get off work, drive up to Williamsburg, I might be a bit tired for a night race. I'll just get up early and spend the day at the track. I'm going by myself but some friends had tickets in the next section so we are going to meet up there early. I'm sure there are things to do and buy.

My head has never banged so bad it did one year at Bristol. Drank way too much and that place is loud.

My parents have been to Richmond and they also say its a very cool track because you can see good. You are going to have a blast!!

Richmond is a nice track. You can see everything. Night races are especially cool. Enjoy it.

I will hopefully move to Hampton Roads area in 18 mos (plan to live there after I retire from the USAF anyway). Richmond is the closest track. Nice to know its a good one to go to.

Front row, Colonial Section "B". Basically it's right at the point of when they are coming into turn 4 on their way to the start/finish line.
