Brad,
Where was your custom display stand? I placed third at my last show, and that stand definitely helped people understand all the mods.
I think if you want to make your car stand out, you're going to have to twin turbo it and drop the 6 speed in it.

I wouldn't change my personal car just because it failed to win a popular vote class at a regional car show.
I've gone to plenty of those over the years and the winners of those classes have ranged from a high of some great cars to a low of a fluorescent green V6 mustang that had just been purchased the week before at the dealership where the show was being held.
There is a lot of ballot stuffing going on behind the scenes - people calling their friends, or people that just happen to have friends there, or the guy that has the best looking stuffed kid hiding its face on their car type crap in their display.
I wouldn't sweat it. Make the car what you want it to be and forget the popular vote kinda thing. If you want to win those consistently you'll need the latest and greatest and most flashy (say a red GT500 - or a heritage edition Ford GT). Keeping up that standard is impractical, expensive, and likely to get you pulled over on the way home.

I didn't have room for it that weekend. I agree though; it definitely helps.
Not a fan of the pj saleen/heritage bumper myself. I like the aggressiveness of the gt500's lights and upper grille, or the GT's rear bumper with an aggressive chin spoiler. Putting them both together says I can't decide to me.
People miss out on great detail. And in all honesty you need time to really appreciate the amazing attention to detail you've incorperated into your show car. And thats a shame...
So next show, get a light show and dry ice machine and maybe some loud music to really get the crowd going
Just kidding. Like most poeple have mentioned focus on building YOUR dream car not somebody elses'. The GT500 conversion would look attractive on your car.

When I clicked on this thread, the very first thing I noticed was the Pony emblems and it not having fog lights. that instantly made me think it was a V6 and I almost left the thread until I saw under the hood before I clicked.
It's a gorgeous car and very tastefully modified, but because of the non-vibrant color and almost V6ish appearance, you really have to look at it twice and some people might not do so.
Maybe reapplying the GT emblems or Powered by Ford emblems from the Shelby GT in addition to some 'nameless' Boss side stripes?

I like the GT500 front end, I think that might look good. Id like to see what a Roush front end would look like with the rest of the car. But I also dont think that you should change PSH because some stupid judges are judging from the outside, its your car, do with it what you want. And personally, I like a car with modifications that look like they could have been stock on the cars. It's kinda what Chip Foose does alot, just minor details, they keep the car interesting.
The GT500 front end would look good, but it's probably too subtle to attract the popular vote types. My Cobra was parked a couple of cars down from the black GT500 and although it's a beat up daily driver, it's bright red and it got a second place. I'd go with a flashy paint scheme and loose the V6 styling ques.
I think the color of the car is working against you,it doesnt really "pop" most people arent paying attention to the extraordinary amount of detail you put into that car, it really is a well done and beautiful car.
I think a CDC classic or even the aggresive chin spoiler would make a huge diffrence and its cheap and easy, maybe a two tone leather interior.
I do think the v6 styling cues are kinda plays down the car, most ppl at first glance will think its a v6 and that garners less respect from ppl who dont know the diffrence.
