I installed the "metal" shifter in mine and it is NOT really metal, it as a thick silver finish that just looks like metal... I also live in Fl and am glad I upgraded. I also installed the upgraded steering wheel and sill plates. I say ..Go for it!

Here is a little extra touch! Since I did not want to pay big bucks for the 68g or 68r shifter I merely painted the surround bezel with silver paint. Also to dress up the parking brake I used some 1/4 inch silver pinstripe tape in the handle recess! Love it or hate it its just an idea. I like it.

thats nice, what an idea!
Did you paint the e-brake and then put the pinstripe on it or is it all pinstriped?

Find The Fatest Phillips the will fit Tight in the Screw. Pull it Back into First where you can get a better crack at it and Tap it Not beat it with a hammer. Twist a little as you do that and hopefully it will break free. Fortunately the new **** comes with a new screw. CHeck your new Screw for the Phillips that seats the best and gets the best bite! If you do not have a good match take the New Screew down to your local Parts store and get a Good Screwdriver! Also Remember the screw is facing away from you and you are loosening not tightening it!

first off i want to thank anyone for helping me out already. heres what happend. after noticing i stripped the bolt...grrr...i went to the local ace hardware store and asked what to get and whats the best thing to do. they stinkered me into a 20 dollar drill bit set that supposebly works wonders. i was all for it, i get backk home and try it, all it does is strip that screw even more. i did the tapping of the screwdriver, nothing. is there an easier way to remove the handle than just by the screw? what if i removed the whole assembly shifter? any help would be great. ahhhhhh Why is my screw so tight?!?!
I have plans on doing this, but I noticed in another post that someone had a chrome bezel around the shifter. Looked really good. Does anyone know where to find this? I asked in the post where I saw it along with several other members, but no one was giving up any information.
