I just got info for those Factory HIDs (Part numbers: 8R3Z-1300-8A [R/H] and 8R3Z-1300-8B [L/H])

The headlight assemblies include ballasts... so I beleive it's pretty much plug and play or Splice together.

The price: $743.43 / piece +tax

I could get these for around $1200 if someone wants to have a shot with installation... I'm not sure about their availability, but they should have them.

 

Hang On! My Research So Far Does Not Indicate PLUG AND PLAY. I am Working On This! Simply Installing Lamps Could Cause Damage and Or Issues!

Here Are the Wiring Diagrams Which Show Extra Relays Used By HID's! Also Repost of Diagnostic PDF. I believe we will Have Issues With the SJB or Smart Junction Box if you read between the Lines on the Diagnostic PDF!

Together We Can Figure out What is Needed and I will Put a Package Together to Make it Happen. Fyi Look What Ford Says!

They Say the Samething about the MYCOLOR Retrofit. It can' t be Done!

Great job Kevin. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to **** in your cereal for this.

But the one thing that I know that if you can retrofit any aftermarket HID-system, you can retrofit Ford Factory HIDs.

OK if they're not plug and play, but all you need is 12V (bulb socket) from the light switch and splice it into the ballast. If you don't want to use bulb socket as your primary power source (which should be no problem, cause HIDs draw less power), you can buy generic relay, add a fuse line, use light socket as switched source and take power directly from the battery/fusebox.

Of course it would be nice to have PnP harness for everybody able to do it.

And what Ford says about Retrofitting is BS. They can be retrofitted (PnP or the hard way), but they say that cause 2005-2007 Mustang is NOT DOT APPROVED with HIDs. Mustang PCM has no logic behind lightning. ECM doesn't monitor anything. SJB doesn't have a clue if it's bulb or Kitchen Aid at the end of the wire.

 

I believe the SJB Comes into Play with the Flash to Pass Feature. I believe it works with a Shutter Activation. It's a Matter of Everbody Knowing What they are Getting Into. We are a team At TMS and As Stated we can come up with a solution together. I wish I had all the Answers on this one but I do not at the Moment and The Last Thing I would Like to See is Somebody Have Issues with this Conversion.

No need for popcorn. I'll wait for Kevins research on this too... the HID assy is shutter activated for hi beam... so if it's not controlled by swithed 12V, there might be another wire coming from the SJB... dunno. Thanks.

Headlights
There were several ideas to change the lights. Jaguar lights? Paint the bezels inside? Well at the time, we had heard that Ford was bringing an HID option to the 2008 Mustang line. We contacted Ford and told them of our project and they got on board with us. These will be available late this year as far as we know. The lights do a great job and they are adjustable. Some have asked if it's a straight swap--there are actually some harness and module requirements. A nice added feature is the high beam “get out of my way” flick. The lights actually strobe twice, much like strobe flashers do. It's just not a rapid on and off cycle.

I'm really against Saleen's implementation of HIDs. Not only do they look like ****, but they're incredibly overpriced.

I dont really see how they are overpriced, considering the cost of headlights, and an HID kit and that its plug and play but if your link worked maybe it would shed some light on it for me

Yeah that really didnt explain much other than the fact that the poster was cheap and went with something that is not DOT. Im not really into the ebay lights so it will be Saleen or Ford or nothing untill someone can come up with something else that isnt all ricer looking

 

The retracting shield should be a solenoid that is actuated by a signal from the SJB that is carried from your flash to pass lever. I'm guessing you can just route the high beam lead to the solenoid since it doesn't require a lot of juice to actuate.

Note that the stock 2005-2008 halogens are wired to use a relay for the high beams and the SJB for the low beams. I reviewed the wiring diagram and it appears the ground for the low beam is routed through the BEC (Bussed Electrical System) so that it detects current passing through the low beam. If you had your low beams ON and the BEC detected minimal current, it would say your lamps are out. There should be a way to bypass this.

Assuming the 08 OEM HIDs work on the same principle as any HID (12V into ballast, 20kV+ out of ballast), then the wiring should *not* be that big of a problem. The low beam may need a relay (easily done with a 9008 relay upgrade kit) with some harness splicing for an extra added safety factor. The real question is: are the HID assemblies physically compatible with the 05-07 cavities?

what about the headlamps? i believe they're different for the factory installed hid's than the halogens? would it be possible to use the factory HID headlamp housings with an aftermarket hid kit? i would think this would offer a superior beam pattern as the housing was designed for HID

 

Steeda is selling an OEM 2008 HID retrofit kit for $1000.
I don't really see the point in using an aftermarket HID kit with the OEM HID reflector assembly, since the OEM HID capsule is a very good design (D3R).

The OEM Ford HIDs are made by Valeo Sylvania and appear to be a different design than the Saleen.

 

i would only consider, because i would need the headlamps? and the aftermarket kits have been installed with relatively no issues?
