$1500 sounds crazy. I don't think ford will modify wiring at all and hope these HIDs are just PnP.
Keep us updated Kev! Thanks.

Subscribing. The Silverstars are a good value...had them on my Honda Insight (yes, I owned one in 2000), 2004 Honda Accord, and 1998 F-150. Can't wait to see how much the HID's will run, though!

HIDs are so 1999. LED headlamps are coming out for production vehicles. The first 2 cars to have them are the Audi R8 and Lexus LS600. The performance is expected to be on par or better than halogens, and only a step below HIDs in terms of lumens. However, LEDs will far outlast HIDs and won't require a ballast.

WOOHOO! Yes, you're right, and they use less power too. In fact that's the new tech for TV's as well.

I wonder when we'll have a bolt-on upgrade for LED in our S197's?

I'm not sure about TVs, but LED headlamps are definitely a go for at least 2 production cars starting in 2007. We'll see more and more of them by 2010, mainly in foreign cars. The primary benefit of LED headlamps is mainly the longer lifespan and light output. It's interesting that the Germans and Japanese were one of the first to utilize HIDs for production cars almost 10 years ago, and they are now the first to utilize LED headlamps for production cars.

It's not intresting, it's technology that drives Europe and Japan. No offense, but I'd rather have Europe/Japanese upgrades for "horse and carriage"-era frame and suspension in our "new Mustang".

My dealer quoted me $1400 to put them in, go figure, I've seen aftermarket for around $500 to 600.

New Car Options Take into Consideration an Upgrade not a Complete Replacement. Service Parts Prices are Seldom Close to New Vehicle option Prices. I am Still waiting For Wiring Diagrams and Parts to Release. Should be Real Close at this Point. If it's Doable I will come up with a competitive Price but that does not mean it will be an Inexpensive conversion.

UPDATE.

I have 08 Wiring Diagrams but No Shop Manual Yet. Parts Should release Soon. My Best Estimate with Info I Have is The Hid's Will Require a Wiring Harness Which{ May be Plug on Play} on an 07 But will Most Likely Need Some Reworking on earlier Models. I have sent the Wiring Diagram to One of Our More Wiring Knowledgeable Members for Reasearch and Will Post Results Asap. At this time I believe The Parts Will Retail For Approx $1600.00 with a Tms Price Of Approx. $1250.00 These Are Tenatative Estimates and Could Change Up or Down.

Check these out...several guys on S197Forum.com have tried these (the 4600's) and like them. Plugs/splices into the factory harness; apparently the hardest part is finding where to locate/hang the ballasts.

$200

Aha! They *are* like the Saleens! (in that there is only one bulb for both low and high beams)

When the high beams are requested, the HID relays stay energized and the SJB energizes an internal high beam relay which routes voltage to the
headlamps to actuate a shutter located within each headlamp. This changes the headlamp beam pattern to illuminate a greater distance.

It looks like to install the HID setup you will need to obtain new relays that hook up into the SJB. Looks like a pain unless someone comes up with a "retrofit kit".

The Saleen kit comes with its own relays and wiring harness. To install you need to make a connection directly to a high current 12v source, and use the existing headlight plug only as a "reference" - the power is drawn from the Saleen wiring harness connections and is distributed to the headlights accordingly.

Without a "retrofit kit" with wiring harness, relays, and ballasts this will not be an easy install.
