So we can get a Mustang with an LS2?

They've already done a joint development on a 6-speed automatic transmission. I would guess they would share R&D on other similar ventures.

Maybe that's not a bad idea at all. Take best from Ford and best from GM ... where is bad?

i'd like to ignore all inteligent reasoning about this issue, and stick with emotions.... NOOOO! hhahaha... I can't say i really understand, on the grounds of a totally doubled up product line. Like the self competition thing i don't get. So i guess an alliance is one thing, sharing development costs and stuff, which i guess is what they're talking about. But an all out merger??? I don't get it! That would make a monster of a company, i don't see how a bigger company would be more profitable.

It's a bad idea that'll never happen - it just surprises me that they even sat down to consider it in the first place.

Never say never as they say. IF after all the cost cutting, consolidation, new models, etc are completed and either or Ford/GM are still losing ground as well as money, market share., then the next step would be a joint venture or take over. The Board of Directors would have not other choice IMO (unless Ford goes private) Hopefully it will not come to that point but if it does,....I rather see this than other possible options.

Heck yea! Let's do this! I'm tired of the ***** on my Shaker staying on. They should fall off after 3 months like any other good GM car.

Does this mean I can you an X-Plan to get a Chevy cobalt instead of a Mustang?

They are already collaborating on Transmissions http://wardsauto.com/ar/ford_gm_automatic/ as they needed to join forces to kick some Nissan booty. I read a trade article in an engineering magazine about six speed tranny work for smaller fuel sippers on both the GM and Ford lines.

What in the world would General Ford Motors do with 2 truck lines? I wonder how serious this "alliance talk" is?

Here is a quote from the article:

Both companies declined comment on a story in Automotive News on Monday, which quoted several people it said were familiar with discussions involving senior GM and Ford executives as saying they began in July and are not taking place now.
If they aren't currently talking then it can't be very serious, at least for the moment. If they resume talks, then who knows, it might happen.
